Re: CB350 Built by a teen (Just call me Buffy... polished crankcase!! PICS UP!)
I'll admit i skipped the whole punch, pilot, then drill routine, but trust me, its fine. and wasnt rushed. and i did use blocks to level the case, but the positioning of it is all wonky still.
Re: CB350 Built by a teen (Just call me Buffy... polished crankcase!! PICS UP!)
With all the woodworking stuff you have it should have been easy to screw it to a piece of ply or similar and get everything level.
I know it's not critical though as it only holds oil baffle down.
Make sure to Loctitie screws (I would say cross drill and lockwire, but doesn't look like drilling straight holes is your forte ;D )
Re: CB350 Built by a teen (Just call me Buffy... polished crankcase!! PICS UP!)
transmission IN.
Oil Baffle plate ON.
Kick Start and shift rod going in NOW! had to get a diagram for the kick starter as the shop manual doesnt show it well. I'm thinking about making a comprehensive CB350 rebuild book, using diagrams from bike bandit, the shop manual, and clymers.
oh, and there is a ball bearing for the neutral stop; 5/16 size. free from your local bike shop
Re: CB350 Built by a teen (Just call me Buffy... polished crankcase!! PICS UP!)
scary moment there! cases wouldnt join up without a good amount of forcing and bolting down. i triple checked and realized that i had everything right, but that the cases had warped enough from the polishing to cause it to be an issue. all looks good and sealed now; lets hope it doesnt leak!
shifts through the gears, crank spins free, hopefully ill have the rest of the bottom end assembled by tonight.
cases are a very tight fit... the combination of being open for a while and the heat from polishing probably caused each case to warp very slightly causing the fit to be tight and awkward. with side covers its never an issue, but with the sheer size of the cases and the accuracy necessary to have a good fit, i guess the polishing was enough!
Re: CB350 Built by a teen (Just call me Buffy... polished crankcase!! PICS UP!)
ugh, I remember assembling the kickstart mechanism.. that was a real pain! Feels great to have the cases back together though, right? Besides hearing the bike run for the first time, I think the cases going back together was the most exciting part of my build.

You did line up the main bearing locating pins in the slots?.
In the pics you can see line on drive side bearing lines up with case half, not so obvious on generator side?

im pretty sure i did, unless if the bearing somehow moved around while assembling......
if i didnt though, any negative affects? just out of curiousity... though im 95 percent sure they are aligned, as i also had problems joining the cases before i even put anything inside them.
Are you sure, Rocan? Do you really want to ride come spring? After reading this entire thread a couple of months ago, I was convinced that you had the perfect story for a movie or at the very least, a TV mini series! I mean look at it.......motorcycles, drugs, sex, and youthful rebellion against authority.....all great elements for current cinema or TV.
I don't know what you would do without this thread to record your life story for posterity. The saga has what now,
3,864 chapters, which has got to be some kind of world motorcycle forum record. I am beginning to think we will be seeing episodes entitled "CB350 build from a nursing home."
Seriously, Rocan...I know you have had many problems during your build......and I admire both your persistence and the quality of most of your hard work. Just having a little bit of fun....I do hope you get it on the road for the riding season this spring! Go for it, dude!
