CB350 Burning Oil, I thnk?

Okay,

On startup, there is no smoke, even when I gun the throttle, no smoke.

However after the bike warms up alot, smoke, enough to fill the alley behind my house.

This bike has been in the process of rebuilding for a few months now after I found her on CL.

Is there anything I can try to eliminate possible problems from the list? I find it odd that it only blows smoke after being warmed up, seems counter intuitive to a ring/valve guide leak.

my first guess would be that in the process of rebuilding, oil covered the outside of the engine an is now smoking when it gets hot, like when you spill oil on your exhaust pipes. if that's the case, not that big a deal, it will eventually burn off an stop smoking. I'd check for any oil leaks or oil residue. if that's not it, i'd just have a professional look at it.

I'd check the compression while you're at it. Check it both dry and wet (bit of oil in the cylinder) after the bike is warmed up. If there is a sizable difference between the wet and dry numbers then this usually is an indication of ring problems. Not sure if you're in Canada but Princess Auto has compression testers on sale this week for $10. I just picked one up to test mine.
