CB350 Cam Chain Tensioner

overdraft

Coast to Coast
Hi!
Just put my motor back together after a rebore... i got all the way to the top and then went to put the external part of cam chain tensioner on and the internal part looked flakey... the part of the roller frame that rides on the plunger was like way down at the bottom of the slot... looking like it was no where near the plunger... i pushed it and it went in and up as you'd expect knowing where it pivots, but it was kinda spongy feeling... it's the stock tensioner (but with all new rubber parts)... is it normal for it to have some 'squish' to it?

Also, when the cylinders went on there was a tiny gap at the bottom where it attaches to the upper crankcase... now that i've tensioned the studs it seems to have gone away, but i wonder if i got it right... does anyone know if the o-rings at the bottom of the cylinder sleeves make it look like it's not totally sitting down before you tighten the studs? or did i assemble something wrong...

Thanks for any input... this is my first 4 stroke rebuild and i don't know shit from shortcake!

OK, revised question... If I undo everything and button it back up again just to be sure everything's in order do I need new gaskets? and am I wearing out those special cam sprocket bolts?

hey man i just rebuilt my 77 400f. i didnt have to crack the cases but i did install my pistons without gapping the rings and the motor was to tight. i had to tear the engine down to the cases to fix it, and i toasted the base gasket after two days of being torqued down. i saved the head gasket, but im spraying it with coppercoat just in case because afterall it is a crush style gasket. hope this helps.
