CB350 exhaust collar orientation and fitment

Coast to Coast
Which is the proper way to install the exhaust collars on a CB350? My buddy took my exhaust off but didn't not the way the collars came out.

I think it's the top way but I'm not 100% sure on it.

Also, I picked up an exhaust for the 350 that was supposed to fit but I noticed that the pipes have a much smaller lip than the original pipes. I figure I'll need longer collars. Does anyone know a good, cheap place to get them?

Yes, top is correct. Also, like you have found out there are two different collars for the 350. Can't recall which years had which versions. It documented over on hondatwins.net though.

The flared rim of the collars typically fit on a shelf on the inside of the exhaust joint (i.e. the top image is correct orientation). If you purchased an aftermarket exhaust it is possible that it needs different collars than stock. I have an aftermarket setup and the collars are noticeable longer to account for a difference lip thickness near the end of the header side that goes in the port. If yours needs them and didn't come with them you may be out of luck. You may have to contact the manufacturer or have them made. I've never seen aftermarket collars sold individually.

I found a place in my state (OH) that has them so shipping shouldn't take too long. The stock ones on my bike are around 26mm and the collars on some other 350s are around 42mm. I called the place and they have the longer ones, so hopefully they work out.
