CB350 exhaust size

MB

Coast to Coast
So, I wanna place an order for some 12" shorty pipes from Dime City, but my bike is in the garage right now and I can't remember the size of the header pipe to attach them to. Any ideas?

I just bought those shorty pipes from a local place (they look identical at least). The end of my headers (where the muffler slips on is right around 38.5mm, and I believe those pipes are right around 39mm. They fit perfectly.

I'm still trying to get mine to fit right...

I bought the shorty mufflers for my '71 CB350, but they dont go on - the set screw interferes. Maybe I'll make a detent or groove in the end of my exhaust pipe so it will fit, unless someone else has a better idea?

If you have the same ones I have then you have them backwards. The muffler slides over the header pipe. Should fit perfectly. The smaller end is the exhaust side. Also, seal the header/muffler connection with high-temp copper/silicon sealent, you can get it at any autoparts store.

That set screw holds the baffle in and should be at the rear of the bike, not near the connection.

bumping this because i actually bought the exact same 12" shorty muffler from DCC, but they're way too big for to fit into my pipes on my 1970 honda cb350. one side of the muffler has a screw like mentioned above, so inserting from the other side leaves me a lot of extra milimeters of space. not sure what to do with that...

stealing your pic here from your build thread adriannarold...

i got those exact pipes; it seems you got a bit creative with that stabilizing piece on the side of the muffler by moving the buddy pegs. i'll have to use that idea too.

does the seal between the exhaust and muffler need to be airtight? i'm wondering what's wrong with my cb350 if my pipes are too small for them??

sent an email over to the boys at DCC and got told to buy these, so i did:

seems like it should do the trick. only issue now is to sit and wait :)

Aww waiting is the worst. :'(

Yes, as far as I know it needs to be airtight. Buy some high temp copper sealant from any autoparts store. It's like $6

Just to confirm. The larger of the two openings should be at the rear. As you can see from my pic.

All I used for that stabilizing piece is a little aluminium from the Home Depot. Cut to size and drilled some holes in it.

Also, check your baffles inside. Mine were retarded. One had almost no packing in it. If need be you can buy the packing for under $10 from most motorcycle shops.

I ended up just slicing a slit down the end of the front of the muffler where it slides over the exhaust pipe. This way it can flex open to go on, then be clamped down tight with a nice shiny exhaust clamp.
