No one has the gear shift return spring for a honda CB350.

i have combed the internet.

is this a specialized part or can you use one from another bike? if so, what bike?

i dont even know the procedure to replace one but i figure that i'll tackle that one i source one.

does anyone here know?

Can you point it out in a pic? I'm sure I have it from a spare parts engine.

Just cover shipping and enough for a cup of coffee and it's yours

its Number 3

That part is used in a number of different bikes. Its part # 24651-286-000, you can cross reference the part number on this site to see the models that used it - http://www.motogrid.com/pages/OemParts?aribrand=HOM. Very surprised to find its no longer available. Hopefully this model list will broaden your search and you can find one.

Looks like a regular extension spring. I would look for something similar at the hardware store and modify it to fit.

That spring rarely fails. make sure it is not that the shifter is bound up on it's shoulder mounting bolt.

It will shift through all the gears if I manually push the shifter down and then back up again.

get a new clutch cover gasket, shop manual and oil filter rotor crankshaft nut special socket and dive in there ;) ;)
there is also a wheel that slides on a shouldered pin thingy could be sticking i had that issue
but you gotta pull the oil filter rotor and clutch/oil pump to get to it

i did remove it to replace an oil seal...
are you meaning the point where #14 and #17 (in the above illustration) secure the shifter?
should i grease that point?

I highly doubt the spring failed.
My money is on either a: its disconnected from number 11 somehow.
or b: number 11 is broken.

id say a

I have the EXACT same symptoms as you, please let us know what the issue is when you find it? I also suspected that spring.

the sliding mechanism of the wheel that engages the shift drum star can cause a sticky shifting issue as well

on my 350 screw #23 had come loose and was causing the #7 stopper to bind making shifting very un-normal notchy and sticky

If it's not returning on it's own:

1. If you feel ANY resistance when moving the lever upwards to center after shifting down, you have a bent shaft.

2. If there is no resistance, that spring was not installed correctly or at all.

For $5 I'll post one within the States.

i had resistance, :( no bent shaft

What did yours turn out to be?

If it feels like it is really hung up on something, like a super tight fit, it's going to be the shaft.

I should add that you shouldn't order any parts until at least you take off the clutch and pull the shaft out to check each component.

look at my above post and the csml link i point out what it was ,stopper screw came loose causing stopper to bind badly instead of slide smoothly AND i caught it just in time as the screw was backed-out rubbing on the clutch lucky it all dint go crunch

Good news everyone. I had flipped the linkage and the clamp was wrong at the shifting shaft. So I flipped it back it's as good as new or at least 42 yrs old.
