cb350 kick starter slop

I had never had to use my kick starter but recently wanted to and noticed some back and forth slop in the shaft. is some play normal? if not, any idea on what's going on here or how to fix it?

The kicker usually has about an inch or two of movement before it engages if that's what you're talking about....

i understand what you're talking about but not the kick lever. sorry i should have been more clear. the actual kick shaft is sliding in and out of the engine. I can push and pull the the whole shaft about a half inch or more in and out.

Ah gotcha.
There is always some play, but half inch is excessive.
Is the return spring catching? Ie does the kicker return on its own after you kick?

yeah everything seems to working fine just that play has me worried. I'll double check if I'm exaggerating on the 1/2" or not when I get home.

If you were to take that side of the cases of (careful you'll dump a bunch of oil) there should be a snap ring and a washer on the kick starter shaft. Possibly the snap ring popped off or broke.

Thanks, that's good to know. the whole motors coming apart here soon so I'll be sure to check the ring and washer.
