CB350 Kick Starting (noob) Question

Hi guys, exciting day for me today. I finally got the bike buttoned up enough to try to start it up. It's a kick start only and after a few kicks, it starts running! I go to shift into first, and it dies. Not a big deal i think, the clutch lever had some slack in it so maybe the clutch caught and it stalled. Adjust the clutch and I go to kick it over again and no matter what I do, it won't start.

One thing though, every 3rd or 4th kick, there is a lot of resistance (i guess the power stroke) and the lever wants to spring backwards against my foot. Would that have anything to do with it?

Thanks in advance

It dying when shifting into first really sounds like a need of a clutch adjustment - make sure you follow the manual carefully.

As for the kick back - not too sure specifically on the 350 - but i know some bikes do that when the timing is off.
good luck
