CB350 left cylinder won't wake up - documenting fix

Greetings guys,

Fairly new here at DTT, and have had some nice interactions with several members in the suspension forum thus far. I really respect the amount of knowledge being passed around on this site. Been reading and reading and doing more reading :)

I have been restoring and customizing a 73 CB350 for the past two months and am so close to finishing my initial tune-up phase to get it in shape for reliable riding that I can taste it. There is a hiccup though, which is keeping us from riding this wonderful bike on the regular...

What I've done so far: New battery, oil, shortened fender, shaved & re-wrapped seat, wimbledon white paint job, engine guard added, exhaust leak at right side collar fixed, fresh gas w/ seafoam added, chain cleaned and lubed, new OEM air filters, replaced 15A fuse, new rear brake switch.

Current condition + what needs a fix: The left side cylinder is temperamental. When I took the bike out for a shake-down a week ago, it was running on just the right cylinder, but after 3 min.s of riding and giving it some full throttle, the left woke up and it ran like a dream for a 10 min.s ride. Took it back out 3 days later and the left wouldn't wake up.

My plan of attack in order: Swap in new spark plugs. If that's not it, then... // Tap on carb bowl to shake loose possibly stuck float. If not that, then... // Remove and clean petcock + fuel lines. If not that, then... // Drop and clean carb bowl(s). If not, then... // Look into coils/points (hope it doesn't get this far).

I'll be documenting my mini-journey here. Happy to receive any and all advice!

I swapped out the seemingly 20-year old spark plugs for new B8ES ones, discovered the crankcase breather nipple was obstructed by a cheap polymer hose the previous owner had put on, then fixed that as well.

The bike was much happier, and a 15 minute test ride showed much better warm-up period, throttle response, and idling.

Three cheers for new parts breathing life into a once-neglected moto 8)
