Cb350 speedometer question, 70mph red line?

and maybe other models, but running erands in the city yesterday and a few miles on the freeway, I hit 70mph and while trying not to die while merging on the freeway, I wondered why at 70mph there is a red line.

anything faster means death?

Nah... it's completely possible to kill yourself at slower speeds than 70mph.

I say because back then that was the max legal speed limit. Then in the Carter administration years, the National speed limit was dropped to 55 and the red line got moved to that speed... and most speedo's max reading was 85 as if to say that was all the faster your vehicle was capable of going...Yea, right. :
