cb350 twin upgrades for performance

primo

Been Around the Block
i don't wanna get into the engine for more power and engine efficiency. and new mikuni carbs are too expensive and a hassle for me to plug chop. but 520 chain conversion sounds tempting. is it really what is cracks up to be? can anyone tell me their experience before and after the conversion? any leap in performance?

and are there other simple and non-simple mods out there worth considering?

thanks,

JP

here are some good ones:

KA Performance cam chain slider
Tsubaki Cam chain
Electronic Ignition (Bore-Tech or Newtronic)

I don't have personal experience with the 520 conversion, but reading around here it seems a lot of folks are saying unless you're racing it's not that big of a deal.

I just placed an order for Mikuni VM-30's from bikebandit.com, and got the two of them for $150. Way cheaper than anywhere else. Also, use the promo code DUCATI123 for 10% off.

Now I just need to find a throttle cable...

Getting a throttle cable with the Mikunis on Evilbay was what attracted me to them.
But the savings with Bikebandit.com is considerable. Finding a cable and good pods at reasonable cost will clinch the deal. ;)

BTW. rizzlo34, thanks for the heads up on the discount. :)

Rizzler....search universal snowmobile cable, I bought mine from direct distribuiting,,,and bought 2 sets..then dismantaled each set so both sets would have the same lenghts from the split,,,cut back the throttle cable and solder a brass end on to it,,,fitted to a quarter turn throttle,,,,,,,,,,,,,,remember cb 350 boots won't except vm 30's........you need to order cb 360 boots(carb insulators)............jet to 175-155 mains

where did you find the cb360 boots? would love to get a new set...

Good luck with that bro! They are stupid hard to find...however, there is a mikuni set that will work. Let me dig around and I'll get you a part number.

order them from Honda ,,there still available.......I've searched universal boots and none will fit the head,,,,,,or build an adapter plate and or long manifold

I am led to believe that a longer inlet tract will increase performance, so Wee Todd's proposal to fabricate your own has merit.
Use tubing of the correct dia. and weld a flange at one end to mate with the head. Then use hose (radiator perhaps) to mount the carbs.
I plan to do this and experiment with different lengths.

my 360 insulators were all dry and cracked. im pretty sure i got some from this guy at www.speedmotoco.com i just told him the dim i needed. they fit great and ive had no problems. guy was easy to work with.

40 buckeroos... pricy?

With a little force I was able to get my stock 350 ones to work just fine. It's amazing what can be accomplished with a few beers and a rubber mallet. ;D

Yes the boots are expensive from Honda, another option is to chuck the vm 30's in a lathe and the spigots can be turned down to fit stock cb 350 insulators,,friend did it to his road race lump,,,,,and stock boots are splayed about 10 degrees which allows easier fitting of stacks or pod filters

i was just thinking that... heat could make it even easier, no? should be a bit better with the offset (as todd said) and also the tighter fit should be a bit helpful to keep it from leaking...

Dyna coils for bigger, hotter spark.

Yeah, they are on there tight as can be. It only took a few minutes to do. The bore on the carb lines up perfectly too.

So I have been looking at coils, and found these...does anyone know if the smaller ones are just as good as the bigger ones? Or is there some difference that I am unaware of? Thanks

so far, the coil upgrade seems the most promising. how about the 520 conversion performance?

You can use either. Boretech offers both in their 350 upgrades section.

mini coils are just smaller. i would go with the larger ones... show off the goodies. plus they seem more durable to me. and cheaper.
