Hey Team,
So my chain is pretty beat, and to be on the safe side I'm grabbing a new one. I'm runing stock 16/36 sprockets & don't intend to change them. I'm sticking with the 530 style. From what I've read online it sounds like 96 is the number of links in the chain. I'm looking online & seeing 100 links & 104 (from DCC). I'm guessing they just threw a couple in there incase people did lengthening mods.
My question is, am I good to run the bike with 100 or 104 links? or do I need to drop some out. I don't have a chain break tool (& I don't intend to buy one). DCC might just do it for free, cause they are cool like that (plus I feel I'm puting their kids through college with the ammount of $$ I drop there).
Thanks team.

You'll need to remove some links 96 sounds right.
A chain breaker is 15 bucks at harbor freight and well worth it.

Rats. I figured as much. But wanted to check.
I'll check with DCC & see if they'll punch some out. If not. Ebay it is.

Thanks guys.

Always appreciated.

I just did the chain shortening myself and got the breaker from HF for 9$, worked perfectly and was very easy

This motorcycle has forced me to buy so many "one time use" tools.

you still need to press the master link in, so ya kinda do

Huh, are you referring to an o-ring chain? I install a standard chain masterlink with pliers.

Yeah standard master link on a 530 chain isn't the press and dimple type it's just a simple clip

Yah, 530 O-Ring chain

I had to press mine in until the ends "bloomed" to the correct diameter...no way I could have put that much pressure with a pair of pliers

Why is the shit I buy always so complicated?!
