Yeah, covers up imperfections surprisingly well. Especially my unprofessional body work. I got a little carried away with the angle grinder in places. Now they are barely noticeable unless you're really looking for em.
Nice... Now thats how I think a house should be decorated..
I live with 3 females in my house!!!...If I had part laying around the house like that Id never EVER find anything where I would have left it!!.. LOL!!!..
I like the way this thread is going...
Any thoughts on what you are going to do about rearsets?
CL360 pipes freshly arrived from eBay. Paid $80 shipped. Not really what I was planning on, but I accidentally put $600 as my high bid instead of $60 w/about 30 seconds left. I lucked out that the other guy didn't put his high bid at $100+
Mufflers cut off. I didn't toss them cuz I figure I could use mounts for something.
Pre and post wire wheel session.
High temp BBQ rattler. Rated at constant temp of 600*F and peaks of 1200*F.
Painted and ready for header wrap.
Wrapped and ready to be mounted. Those black zip ties are only temporary. I thought I had some hose clamps, but alas did not. Now i'm either going to paint some hose clamps black and mount them, or just use stainless steel safety wire for a cleaner look. We shall see. I also left the ends unpainted so in the future if I do add the 2 into 1 exhaust I originally planned on, i won't have to strip the paint.
On to the tank...
I stripped the paint off w/Bix spray stripper some time ago(which can be seen in a previous post). Now time for body work. I didn't like the ugly side mounts for the Honda emblems(see first photo), so I decided they needed to go. However, it was pretty much impossible to completely get rid of the 'dimples' in the side of the tank w/out cutting it open. Lots of body work it is...
I didn't manage to get a good pic of the tank w/the paint completely stripped, but you can see it in the previous post in the background w/the pipes.
Here you can see the metal strip cut to show the dimples. I obvi didn't shoot both sides cuz they are identical.
Took the angle grinder to her and smoothed out as much as I could. Also put the wire brush attachment on my cordless drill and removed the paint from those pesky dimples.
Body filler. Note the sandpaper in the background.
More sanding w/ 80 and 220 and I had a pretty smooth surface. Next was the spot putty to get any imperfections. I used this stuff:
The one on the left, except gray. Sand once more, but w/220, 320 and 400 grit.
And typical me, I didn't snap a photo of the spot putty before or after. I painted the tank tonight, at least the first coats, so I won't get any post putty/pre paint shots. Drat!
I'll post the tank and headlight housing in the next few days when I get the pics of the tank. Still drying now.
Great posts cahurst, love it. Lots of explanation, pics and detail. Looks like you're making some good progress. Great job on the wrap, looks very neat. I recently wrapped mine and it never came out any where near as nice as that. Post some pics after you get the tank finished.

To all who have an opinion, which is all of you, I'm open to suggestions for accent design/images. The accent colors are white and a little orange. I want something different. Not racing stripes or skulls or whatever, etc. We have a lot of graphic design guys on here, so fire away!
