CB360 Engine Removal

Evening / Afternoon / Morning All,

I'm preparing to pull the engine on my '74 CB360, I've removed all the bolts, brackets and the foot pegs and rod.

What's the best way to get it out from there, looks like it wants to come out from the right side (foot brake side). The only thing that look like it might stop it is the bracket in the picture below - does this need to come off somehow? Any hints and tips before I break something!

Yep. I like to lay the bike on its side, undo the remaining bolts, then stand the frame up.

That circled portion will need to be unbolted. There is a bolt that comes through the frame from underneath and the bracket can come off the engine after it's out.

The steel bracket is held onto the frame with 2 bolts underneath. You take the motor mount bolt off, then the 2 underneath bolts, and that little steel bracket slides right off the motor.

Check out sohc4.net and see if they have a service manual for your bike. I used my frequently to walk my through stuff

Thanks guys, with the help of a downloaded workshop manual and your replies I got it out easily.

Now for wheel and steering bearing removal which I'm guessing won't be as easy.

I need to get bearings out ready for blasting and powder coating. Also need to get the rear fork bushes out.

Do I really need special tools for these jobs?

I can see upgrading / replacing the steering head bearings. Use the allballs tapered kit.

But your wheel bearings? Just mask them. They are very difficult to remove.

remove the starter first, then the left exhaust studs…for an assembled bike(on wheels) i use a strap and bolt through the head stay and a hand winch overhead it comes out fairly easy….hard part is getting it back in after painting and powdercoating, even when you lay engine on its side and then install a bare frame onto the engine..have fun!
