cb360 having a tough time shifting?

jonwright

surfing and motorcycles.... yup
so my cb360 seems to shift into gear when it wants to and not always when i tell it to. not sure where to start looking..

spring and ball bearing in detent mechanism on top of crankcase or the roller holding it it gear behind clutch

k what am i looking for? wear? broken? adjustment?
Sorry pj, I wish I had a better understanding of this stuff. I didn't even know what a detent mechanism was until you just mentioned it. I will do a little more research and try to figure it out

on top of case is a 17mm 'bolt' that has a spring and plunger inside it.
If you didn't remove it but split cases its a good possibility parts fell out and didn't get re-fitted
Behind clutch is an arm with a wheel on it.
There should be a spring holding it onto gear change drum 'star'

i never split the case, i have been reading it is best to mess with that spring and ball with the motor pulled. can i just unscrew the bolt and remove the spring and ball with a magnet or something? normaly it goes into nuetral but sometimes it does not. i have only ever gotten the bike up to 3rd gear and i have only had a problem with the shifting a couple of times. id really rather not pull the motor but i suppose if thats what neds to be done i can.

You don't need to pull motor to do any of the checks. You can remove bolt and check without anything falling inside.
You need to remove footrest and loosen brake to get clutch cover off

i pulled the bolt spring and ball and everything looked pretty clean and good. i put it back in and shifter through the gears with no problem. so... i guess i will just leave it till it happens again. when i get my new high performance clutch springs i will take a look at the roller.

There is also a tension spring on gear change that can break.
If it fails it makes shifting very hit or miss
