cb360 kickstart whirling noise

Hi, so this is my first post here on DTT. I have searched around on this topic and found partial answer to my question, but I still would like to clarify.
My kickstart mechanism seems to be making a whirling noise with a light ratcheting sound. I have seen posts that describe these noises and it indeed was related to the kickstart mechanism being stuck engaged. While the bike is running I can slowly turn the kickstarter and the ratcheting noise becomes far louder and more pronounced as I rotate the kickstarter, as soon as it bottoms out the loudness stops. I was unsure if this is what other people were experiencing with the mechanism stuck engaged? In my attempt to figure this out it would seem that the ratcheting would not get louder when rotating if the mechanism were stuck engaged, it would be more consistantly loud. Like I said though I could be totaly off in my thinking.
Thanks guys, this forum has been a great deal of help!
Also, thanks CrazyPJ you have been a tremendous help, I will be posting about your great carb service and overall helpfullness very soon.

My kickstart was making the same noise. It was permanently engaged and the only time the noise would stop while I was riding was when I put it in neutral. I had to replace the kickstart shaft and that solved my problem.

So did you by chance turn the kickstarter while the bike idled and it increase the noise along with a slight vibrating/ratcheting tactile response?

sorry but I don't remember trying that.

It's a known issue with them, its either the ratchets or the spring that pushes them apart or the shaft. ALL need the case split to fix. At least to clean the shaft and ratchets and verifiy they are not getting stuck.
