Been Around the Block
my cb360 had problems on the ride home after work yesterday.
I have not gone in for a closer inspection yet, but I wanted to see what y'all thought first.

Ride in yesterday - great, on the ride home, the bike was running perfect until at a stop light, I had it in nuetral, and heard a back fire, really thought it was another car around me. Light turned green, shifted to first andt took off, but had little to no power, so i pulled into a parking lot and the bike died. This bike has never shown any problems since I got it on the road several months ago. and I put 20-30 miles on it daily, if not a lot more...

so I give the bike a once over, nothing appears wrong, and I kick it and it does start, but seems very lethargic and wants to die. I was not far from home, so i ride it. It would still go, would die if I would let it try and idle, and under load had no power.

What does it sound like to you all?

Flat battery, no fuel? Chech battery and then check the fuel system for low fuel, blocked cap breather, debris in the filters etc.

Yup, my first thought would be battery or fuel/carb issue as well. Do you always get gas at the same station? Any chance you lost a hose clamp, and are sucking air into the system? Sounds dumb, but did you check to make sure you had gas in the tank? Could be a number of things, but start with the simple/obvious stuff. Alsi, check to make sure your carb intake boots and airbox are all sealed up tight.

Yeah, I have not even REALLY looked at the bike, once I got it home, I had a shyt ton of things that HAD to be done...and was beat.

I did fill up early in the day yesterday from a different gas station...
i really figure it is a fuel issue, but just needed some starting points.

Thanks for the tips - I will report back after I look into it.

sounds like your running on one cylinder. start it and check headers to see if they both heat up. look at spark plugs. check for spark. close petcock, drain carb bowls, open petcock. see if fuel is flowing.

same thing happened to me, turned out to be a blocked gas cap air vent due to kreeming the tank couple days earlier.

Interesting...when I filled up at the station, and drove into the office yesterday, i noticed that fuel was coming out around the gas cap, almost like I overfilled the tank, but I had not put any more in there than usual...

Does this mean anything?

so teach me...how would the fuel cap seal being bad cause the engine to run very poorly?

does the tank have to be somewhat pressurized?

I had a funny thing the other day, long story short, after many hours of messing with bike that was freshly tuned the refused to run correctly other than BACKFIRE a few times. I found that the left side SLIDE had some how managed to get stuck all the way up. Bike would run fine at WOT but would not run on both cylinders at an idle. Fixed issue problem went away, rode the dog piss out of it last night for a 50 ish mile trip through the back country around here.

try a thimble full splash of Marvel mystery in the tank. NOT so much to make her smoke. Not according to directions. just a shot. This comes from a great friend whos been riding hondas since before I was born. I am 45 yrs old. He just sold his 1800 hes about 70 yrs now. keeps slides from sticking.

This thread came to my mind tonight as I headed out on my 360 for a short cruise. Got about 3 miles into the ride going about 50mph and lost power in left cylinder, went another quarter mile and lost all power. It was pitch black outside and had to push my bike home for the next 3 miles. The whole time I was thinking about this topic and wonder what you found out was the problem with your bike.

For me...........I ran out of gas. ;D :'(

See that's the exact same thing mine does, left side dies first then the right. Last time I was heading into nice corner that is labeled 45 that I can go about 65 in my TRUCK around. Was getting on the throttle watching the gauges wind up and all the sudden COUGH COUGH, one cylinder gone. DAMNIT!!!!! Looked a the odometer, read about 80 miles so I knew what was up. At least my reserve works. ;D

If only mine was just out of gas...
I have yet to tear into it to figure out exactly what has happened.
I will have time over the weekend to work in the garage!
Thanks again for all of the tips, at least I have some ideas...

Take the petcock apart and check that the screen isn't clogged. That happened to me once. Same symptoms as yours.
