CB360 - Monoshock Brat

Agreed on the hurry up from Bruno, I'm liking your upper mounting point and want to hear how it works out in the end. I have considered a similar position for the mono-shock single sided swinger conversion on my bike but the whole 4 kids and waking up a 0300 for work and coming home at 1830 kinda kills my energy for the day.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I didn't get much done over the long weekend, was out of town. I did start on a rear fender yesterday then changed ideas half way through.

I tried to fabricate one out of sheet metal pieces, but my pattern was off and didn't result in the proper arc to fit the tire. The lowest setting on my welder is too hot to get a good bead going without punching through and the amount of time I'd have to spend cleaning up the weld isn't worth it to me.

Had my good camera out for this one.

With the amount of welding and grinding required to finish this off I think I'm gonna ditch it and go with something a little cleaner...and a little less Mad Max looking.

I think I can modify the stock front fender slightly to fit the rear tire under the swingarm brace. Hopefully it'll be a slim, sleeker looking fender if I can make it work. Looking forward, I think the top of the fender will be were I mount the tail light/turn signals.

Too skinny? I feel like it looks better in person than in the photos.

I'll probably paint it later. I'm going to weld the rounded fender end to the other side so its not cut straight off. That will require a bit of grinding, so I'll paint over that for sure.

I guess now is as good of a time as any to start thinking about a paint scheme. I keep coming back to this...

I'm really open to anything at this point so send me some reference as suggestions if anyone has a vision towards the color.

I like the silver, have you thought of clear coating the bare metal on the tank and fenders? I know some people dont like that look but it would look tough with the mono shock

Rainy day today so jumping back into some motor work. A while back I got new head from someone here on DTT. The camshaft journals were in good shape to replace my busted ones that came with the donor bike. The valves and seats however were atrocious. I fought the springs and won, successfully removing the valves so I could blast them and the head. Here's the before...pretty gnarly.

Pulling the springs and getting them back in was equally challenging, even with a spring puller. I lapped the valves and seats after blasting them then reassembled everything before paint this time. It's all ready to go once the wet weather subsides. Here's the after...

BTW is there a DTT app for android? I just got a new phone and when I visited DTT through the browser for the first time something popped up and asked me to goto the Play store because there was an app for this website. Is there one, or a generic one for forums? If so, what it's name and is it useful? Thanks.

I too have the tapatalk app, mine is for iphone, it works fine in a pinch.

I blasted with glass bead and then washed it thoroughly with soap and water in the kitchen sink.

Crazypj how do you tell which way is up? When I was putting the springs back on they seemed very symetrical so I didn't pay much attention to which way was up. I did notice that the end of the spring coil was sharper on one end than the other. I thought this sharp end to be the bottom.

If I have to pull the springs again i might just :'(

Better that I know now. I'll take some better pictures and post soon. Thanks guys.

After a couple of quick searches it sounds like the end with the coils closer together is supposed to face the head. I know that I have at least one of the interior coils upside down. Blah.

While I'm back in there does anyone know where I can find some new Valve Stem Seals? Bikebandit doesn't carry them and I can only find a pair on ebay, need 4. Thanks.

Crazypj, you're totally right. Its clear those two springs you called out are upside down. Good eye sir. Thank you very much!

I get valve guide seals off eBay, there is an upgraded version, forget price though(probably Honda ones, didn't check)

great project dude! Love seeing the different ways guys do this. When I do one myself I'll be sure to do some simple stress analysis on it to show how the design works haha
