CB360 - Monoshock Brat

pretty cool... hope that plate keeps the heat off your leg, exhaust burns suck.

I'm saying goodbye to the old coils as I got some new universal ones in the mail today. First thing I noticed is that they don't exactly fit the stock brackets. I quickly made up something I thought would work but now the tank won't clear the coil as the stick too far out. I know someone has come up with a slick solution for this before, anyone know of any build threads that might cover this? Much appreciated.

Do they clear the tank okay?

I had fit issues with my Dyna coils under my CB450 tank.

I could saw off a small amount of the screws coming out of the coils and leave just enough that the nuts are covered. Then make another thinner bracket that doesn't stick out as far. I think that might be just enough to get the tank to slip over. I'd still love to see other peoples solutions.

How much room under the tank vertically? My first thought was trimming the bolts and making a slimmer fitting bracket.

Or make a bracket and drop them down a bit? If the tanks like mine the tunnel is wider lower down.

Obvious question but - where were they originally and why don't they go back there?

The new coils are slightly larger than the stock ones (and a slightly different shape) they don't fit the stock mounting bracket.

It would probably be easiest to trim down the coil studs and either cut/weld the existing brackets or fab a new bracket with some steel. You could also try taking what you have and bending the bracket ears so that the coils droop down some. This will push them down and slightly in where there is more room under the tank.

I haven't read through the entire build, but if you powdered your frame you'll likely want to run a ground wire to coil mounting bolts. The stock stuff grounded through the frame which may/may not work so hot anymore.

You need an 'L' bracket to bring coils closer to frame

These are both great suggestions. Thanks, I think I have a good idea what needs to happen.

I made small flat metal tabs to mount my Dyna coils to the stock mounting bracket - do your new coils fit inside the bracket frame?

Starter installed. Leg guard painted black. Chain ready to fit. Grips on. Muffler clamped to exhaust. I got some screws that fix the honda badges back straight. I'm getting the front brake line fixed on Monday and I should be receiving another package from DCC with misc electronics to get her started. I hope to ride around the block next Sunday. Then onto lighting.

not meaning to be a douche post of the day, the front tire is on backwards.

I know. Its a rear tire being used as a front tire. I read that its a good idea to flip it so drive force direction becomes breaking force direction. I know it becomes more of an issue on wet surfaces but I dont plan on riding in the rain. It can always be flipped back.

Pro Tip: If you need to cut threaded bolts, put a nut on first, make the cut, then back the nut off. It sets the slag on the threads straight on its way off.

It's a tight fit but I got the coils mounted proper under the tank. I made the bracket smaller and trimmed down the coil bolts. They can't get any closer to the frame.

Yep, you are 100% correct.
If fitting a rear on front, reverse direction
Even if your riding in rain, reverse it, it will still clear water better when you hit brake (it's not like you have dual 320mm rotors ;) )
