Around 105mph is as much as you can expect with a stock 360 motor
You have to fit heavy duty clutch springs when you fit K&N filters or it will slip ;D

with the 'dot' at 3 (or 9) o'clock, you have an air leak.
That's a drilling into main throttle bore and should have a blanking plug like this
The stock Honda blanking plugs are pressed tin, those in the pictures are ones I made/make to repair carbs
I'll check em out again after work. I still havent figured out exactly where the leak could be, but im almost thinking it IS throttle shafts... Although, it wasn't an issue before my rebuild, so I can't help but think it was something I did during reassembley. What else should I check out? What do you charge to work over a pair of carbs, pj?
Ok, I have almost definitely identified the the INNER throttle shaft seals as the culprit. It took a lot of looking around with some carb cleaner, with a long hose on it and waiting for it to evaporate completely between test areas, etc.. I dont see a procedure for throttle shaft service in my manual, and I haven't found any seals available anywhere when searching for throttle shaft seals..
You have to get some thick felt and cut new seal washers, Neevo had to do it on his 400f carbs.
It's why dunking 360 carbs (or most CV carbs) isn't a good idea
I've tried Teflon and other plastics - felt works without throttle shaft sticking
This project is starting to change gears pretty quick... the more I think, the more I want to do! I have decided on running some K&N style filters instead of the stock boxes. Still keeping side covers because I like the way they look tho.
I've also been working on a new wiring harness that will eliminate the unused circuits and clean everything up a lot. I plan on to electric start, and leaving the turn signals off. Im also goig to get that R/R from Spark Moto mentioned before. Seems like a great deal and have heard awesome reviews of it. Now I just need to start tearing the thing down!! Onward ho!

If you like the way the side covers look then why in the world would you switch to pods? Opening yourself up for a world of headaches. I recommend sticking to stock if at all possible. You can open it up by switching to some UNI foam or something, but there's no reason to go to pods if you're keeping the stock aesthetic
The airflow increase with K&N filters is high enough to push the side covers off the frame mounts. I think the shape doesn't help as it creates low pressure to the outside. You will need to fit some sort of positive fastening or you will lose one of them
Thats a good point on the side covers! They are kind of shaped like little wings, I could see them working themselves loose.. I've been sketching up ideas to makes some custom side covers with a better looking scoop than the stock ones. I was also thinking of going with number plates instead, but this is all just brain storming so far.. my reason for wanting aftermarket air cleaners is that I can keep spares in my pack if I go on a long trip, and when it comes time to replace I wont be shelling out 100 bucks every time.
I've thought about going with some small turn signals instead of none, but where I live its not anything you'll get stopped for as long as you are using your hand signals. That said, I would consider using some if I came across some nice vintage ones. I don't really like the look of LEDs..
The other night I made some real progress! Got the engine out so I can start on doing a valve job and new gaskets. While its out I'm going to make a good assessment of what tabs and brackets I will be removing. Then its time for soda blasting and paint! I haven't decided on colors yet tho...
You don't change K&N filters, hell you don't even clean them unless your doing more than 20,000 miles a year in dusty conditions
The set I have on 360 at present came off a Kawasaki GPZ900 in late 1980's - that's why I always recommend K&N 8)

Ok, been a long time since last working on this heap! But now that summer is coming I'm getting my butt back in gear! Im contemplating weather or not I want to get into the engine all the way (split the case open), or just new gaskets, check the timing chain/guides, and clean it up real well.. the latter might be the better route to take since it seemed to be pretty solid when it was running, aside from the carb issues. I wont be home to work on it for a week so I have time to think on it some more.. in the mean time, gasket kit is sitting there waiting, carbs are getting sent to PJ, and I'm daydreaming like a crazy person!
