cb360 project

Hi guys, I'm new here.

I'm about to build a cb360 (that i'm still looking for a titled frame for... http://dotheton.com/index.php?topic=2328.0)

This will be a very slow project, but I figured I'd start putting up a picture since my carbs came in today.

Yes, there's three carbs here. This is a rack of TM33's of a snowmobile. I'll just cut one off the rack. Seriously, if anyone is looking for carbs, very nice round or flatslides can be had in the snowmobile section of ebay. Usually a lot cheaper too.

The spacing of these carbs is only a few milimeters off, I have some MX flanges that allow for enough wiggle room to make it fit just right.

Anyway, that's my start. The motor is a cb360 1974 with less than 7000 miles on it.

Welcome! Where are you from? I know where a CB360 is for sale locally complete that only needs minor electrical work and it can be had for less then $500.

Peace out,
Woody

Thanks for the welcome. I'm in North Carolina. Where is "locally" for you? ($500 may be a little more than I'm looking to spend, but it still might beat getting a title any other way.

Hey, welcome from a fellow North Carolinian. Love the snowmobile carbs, I would've never thought of that.

Looking forward to seeing more of the project.

I'm starting a couple 360 projects this winter myself. I need diaphrams for my carbs (160 bucks).

Snowmobile carbs will work eh?

the snow mobile is probably 2 strole vs. your 4 stroke bike....you'll have to experiment with setting up the carbs to work on a 4 stroke, they won't just bolt up

Hey Idiot, I have a pair of carbs I'd be happy to sell for less than $160. Supposedly from a cj360, in working condition. Had 1 on my cb350 for about 10 min & it seemed to work fine.

Hey, Welcome to the site!!..
Snowmobile carbs!!!.. Very interesting!!.. NEVER EVER would have thought about Flat-slides from a snowmobile!!!..
Pretty darn ingenous!!.. ;D

Most of the flat slide Mikunis (and many of the round slides too) on eBay are for snowmobiles/atv etc.

Not sure if there are any other differences, but at a minimum you'd be into different jets etc. If you can get a good enough deal on the carbs, then it's worthwhile (or if you know you're running odd jets).

For the most part, a carb is a carb is a carb....
I've got a set of 38mm flat slides from some sled or another look to be essentially flat slide versions of VM round slide carbs.
I agree that jetting will be a must but there's tons available and so far as I've found they're fairly standard physically within the same manufacturer so finding jetts should be do-able.

....that's the plan at least. Glad to see someone else thinking along the same lines...

Good luck on the project man. I just got myself a 360 im playing with this winter as well. Mines a little rough, been sitting for a while. But nothing a little elbow grease won't fix.

wish me luck at the DMV, apperantly the bike has a title (that is MIA from the previous owner) and is unregistered (though previously street legal). I forget the wierd intricacies of the situation, havnt been to the very confused DMV in a while but 3rd times a charm, right?

Nice choice! what is the difference between 2 stroke and 4 stroke? the idle circuit doesn't have an air bleed circuit,4 strokes have high vacuum at idle,2 strokes don't ! So the 2 stroke carb might be more difficult to jet for idle, or maybe not!!! good luck !!!

The TM33 is the stock carb for the dr350 I believe. It is routinely setup for small single cylinder 4 stroke dirt bikes, so while I agree that rejetting will most likely be in order, and maybe a pain, it will surely not be impossible.

I was actually looking for roundslides (vm32) as these are popular on cb350 racers, and I have the jetting specs for them. With vm34's sometimes being used on these bikes with ported heads, I figured the TM33 ought to work . Maybe not the best choice for a streetbike. Oh well, it'll give me something to fidle with.

Oh yes, I only needed new carbs because my diaphragms were busted, and looking at the price of those...

I'm still holding off putting a lot of work in until I find a new frame. I may have found a 1975 cb360 frame with docs pretty close to me, but since mine is a '74, I have to make sure all the stuff will bolt on.
