CB360 starter motor removal

Hi All,

I'm planning on running kick start only on my 1974 CB360, I've removed the starter motor but how do I remove the small fly wheel and remaining housing pictured below.

Also do I need to remove the sprocket attached to the stator or can I leave it in place.

Thanks

Ill skip right over the comments of how stupid a mod that this is, jump right to the "have you searched"? and "if this is a stumbling block you are in for a world of fail down the line" type comments

please make some viddyoHs :)
but any way you gotta put the engine in a press and press out that darn thing

OK THIS IS CRAZY. now why on earth would you want to remove the electric start? When you start tuning and troubleshooting. Your leg is gonna get tired. From the 5 million kicks. When you coulda simply pressed a button the whole time.

You dont need to press it out. Its just an O-ring.

Anyways, The only thing that holds the starter on is the two short mounting bolts. You shoulda simply left the starter in one piece, NOT removing the two looong bolts that hold it together and just wiggled it out of the hole.

Its only being held in now by a thin rubber O-ring.

Heres a post I made.

Starter motor popped out with a few light taps, I didn't want to take a hammer to it without knowing how it was held in place in case I end up causing damage to the case. Turns out its push fit held in place with o ring. Thanks for everyone's help.

Next question, is the stator retaining bolt left or right threaded, I'm having trouble holding the stator in place while trying to get the retaining bolt out, I'm using an oil filter strap wrench. Is there another method or tool? Is it left or right to undo the retaining bolt.

Thanks

All I got to say, its right there, trek already posted it. Remember DO NOT hit or DROP that rotor, it has magnets in it that can/will break if you do. DO not PULL it with a PULLY puller either, you will warp and break it. There's no fixing it if it breaks.

Cheers frogman, no mention of which way the retaining bolt is threaded in that post, is it a regular bolt? Left to undo, don't wanna go charging in there and breaking things!

As far as I remember there are no backwards threads anywhere on a 360 engine. Lefly loosey righty tighty.

If you don't have one already here's a link to a PDF version of the Honda Shop manual. Its a fairly large file may take a minute. If you have a clymer use it as a doorstop.

Thanks frogman, you're right they were normal threaded. I used the oil filter wrench trick to hold the alternator in place while removing the retaining nut, unfortunately this didn't work when it came to using the alternator puller tool so had to remove the clutch cover and use the coin trick to jam the gears.

Stripped the clutch and sprocket and replaced alternator.

Plugged the hole where the starter used to sit with a seal from Brenden at common-motor

Now to work on my leg muscles, haha!

Thanks everyone
