Hi folks,
I just got to the point with my build where I'm actually starting to put things back together. I figured that I'd start with an easy part and put my shiny new bronze swing arm bushings into my swing arm. Well, it wasn't easy (never is). And I have a problem...
One of the bushings went in fine after chilling it in the freezer for a bit. The other bushing was a real fighter. I finally bashed it into submission but not before bending the flange a little bit (see photo). I didn't think that it would cause an issue because it's just the flange. But it took a lot of beating to get that bushing in... is that normal?
Next comes the real problem... the steel collar won't slide all the way into the arm. I tried both ends of the collar on each side of the arm but there is always resistance. It goes in some of the way so I assume that the bushings are at least the correct size. The collar does appear to be worn.
I'm thinking that it could be that the swing arm itself somehow got warped out of a circle (I had it in a vise but not clamped down hard). Or the bushings got warped as they went in. Or the collar is bent. Even if the collar is really worn, it shouldn't prevent it from sliding into the arm... if anything it would make it easier.
I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks
