CB360 VIN question

Doogie

Been Around the Block
Hey all,

I recently picked up a few bikes after my first cafe build I bought in July. I found a 74 CB360 frame for a great price without a title. I am trying to research the VIN and find out what will be needed to obtain a title in VA. I am having trouble searching the VIN and figured someone here will be able to pass on some knowledge.

The VIN is CB360-2039419. I have searched and everything I find it says it is not right/valid.

Any and all help is appreciated.

If you're looking to see if its in the system anything online isnt going to work because modern day VIN numbers are much longer. Best thing to do is just call the DMV in your area and read them the number, tell them its an older bike and they'll find it real quick.

It's a 1975 Honda cb360t0 frame... Info is available on all Honda vin's here:http://www.motorera.com/honda/h0360/CB360T.html

That of course is just for your frame but I think almost every Honda is listed there with easy to find vin's... You can get a title I think in every state but most cops won't write Tue affidavit for a frame, it will have to be a "motorcycle". It doesn't have to run but mostly together. This helps to prevent theft... You can run the vin at NICB.org to check to see if it has ever been registered as stolen first, otherwise when you call the BMV/DMV or local authorities and it comes back stolen, your going to have some explaining to do and if you don't have a paper trail then it's on you. Ignorance is not a free pass from the authorities. You'll be the one facing charges.. I have several of my family in law enforcement here, that is the website they gave me to check through and told me to be carefully and check before I buy... If you check it and it's stolen, cut the neck off and the frame into pieces and put it in the trash.... Who steals a 40 year old jap bike? I dunno but I wouldn't want to have a cop at my house filling out an affidavit with 7 bikes in my garage and the one he checks come back stolen. Your gonna have a bad time. :(

Thanks for the replies. I don't think it's stolen. I got it from an old country boy who had it sitting in an old garage. Anyhow I am picking up a 74 CB360 engine this weekend so it will be a motorcycle soon enough.

I will be calling the DMV sometime soon to figure out the title situation.

Again thanks for the help. I'll post back up here after I talk to the DMV.
