CB400F factory "rear sets"

Are you talking about the stock 75-76 pegs, that sit behind instead of in front of the mounts (like the 350F, CB500 and CB550)? I cleaned out my local yard, and they are getting harder to find, but they're on Ebay pretty frequently. I've seen them go for as little as $50 without the brake lever (you'll need that) in not-so-great-but-useable shape. And you might find someone here or at the SOHC four forums ditching theirs for other rear sets. You don't want 1977 CB400F pegs, they sit in front of the mounts. I just looked, and right now there's nothing but ridiculous stuff ($40 or more for one side, and mount only without peg or linkage). But if you're a little patient they'll come up.

There are none. Build them.

Not exactly true, but they have become difficult to find. Making a set or adapting a set from another more modern bike may be the cheaper way to go.

That's what I am looking for. Been watching eBay and you are right they are ridiculously priced. You say the 77's are not right for the 350. Which years work?

'75 and '76. Honda redesigned the 400F for 1977 before scrapping it, and the moved the pegs forward in 1977 (and added the canary yellow paint and the shitty tank with the little door on it, like the later 550s and 750s). You can tell the '75 and '76 set up because the shifter has a linkage. They'll work for CB500s and CB550s, not sure about 750s, but you might have to do some finangling depending on exhaust set up. What's it for, and what's your exhaust?

Likely not a problem -- I'm guessing those systems were for both 350F and 400F, and you can always use a bracket to push the exhaust down a little. What you will have a problem with is the kick starter. There are a couple of ways to get around it -- you can shave a little off of the 400F peg mount, and you can carefully trim the brake mount tube on the outside of the frame of the bike, keep what you trim off, and mount it on the inside. If you have kept your electric start and just want to run that, that'll work of course. And it's possible to kick it over without doing anything, it's just gotta be able to fire up with about a 1/4 kick.

As coincidence would have it, on my way to look at some 400F parts, including exhaust, pegs (from a 1975) and a rear brake lever. PM me if you're interested...

Thanks for thinking of me better luck next time. You have my # if you find anything worthwhile. You were right about eBay gees 80 for just 1 peg. No thank you

If you look at the factory "rearsets" they're really pretty simple. Wouldn't take much to make them.
