CB400T cafe: Let's cut this thing into pieces

If you decide to go with a GSX-R set up, because they are really easy to find, Cognito Moto has some really cool stuff

I'm gonna go with stock until I have $2k to drop on a gsx-r or CBR front end. Right now my goal is to get the frame where I want it to be and get the tank to not look like a pumpkin. I think I've figured out a way to keep the stock tank with an after market seat. We'll see how my theory holds up.

I assume he is looking on ebay, the popularity of those swaps have shot prices up.

+1 to that. I'll see if a friend of mine can get parts for cheaper. But until then, I'm just going to replace all the oil and dust caps n stuff on the stock ones

Have you checked with Bill's Bone Yard? Chick's also has some motorcycles kicking around, his son is running things now but is usually willing to deal.

It's been awhile, I know. But I have been doing some work on the bike. MY friend is picking it up Sunday to do the frame work that I want done to it and then it'll be electrical, exhaust, changing sprockets, the chain and some gaskets and it'll be ready! And that'll take a grand total of about a week when it gets back because I plan on ordering all of those parts at once. Anyways, there are some pictures of where I'm at now. I painted the tank and I thinkI'm going to flip the street bars. Not sure. Thanks guys!

I have a question about gear ratios. I plan on going down one tooth on my front sprocket, which as I understand it, will increase my ratio and give me better acceleration and higher RPMs. What will that do to my top speed? Will it decrease?

Okay cool. Making sure. Is there a way to increase both acceleration and top speed with gear ratios or will that have to come from increasing compression and displacement in addition to gear ratio?

Different note, mechanic/machinist friend just picked up bike to do frame mods. should be done in a week or so. Looking forward to the results!

Going to a higher gear ratio will give you better low end power while going to a lower gear ratio will give you higher top end speed. So it really it depends on what you are trying to accomplish, are you trying to beat more people off the line or are you looking for better highway speed/doing the time?

I went up 2 teeth on my CB450SC to an 18 tooth front sprocket, I use it for commuting and that gear ratio makes it so I can go 65 in 5th up the mountain roads and still use 6 as an overdrive/cruising gear. Before that my 6th gear was (and still is) to weak for going up mountain roads and my 5th gear was reving way too high at 65 so I would go 55 up the canyons. It isn't as fast off the line, but I wasn't winning races anyway, and I like the taller 1st gear.

I went down a tooth on my CBR600 it made my 1st gear about 5 mph shorter, but it gave me a lot better power coming out of the turns so even though my top speed was reduced a little bit, my times got faster on the track because of it.

Okay cool man. I'm probably going to go down one on the front. The roads around here don't go faster than 45 unless you get out n=in the country. And with all the stop lights and stop signs in Nashville, it's probably better to get going a little quicker. Thinking about it, I'll try going both ways and see what I like more. Sprockets aren't that expensive and it's important to like your ride.
