CB450 specs and advice

Hello DTT,
I have an opprotunity to pick up a 71 cb450 (an opprotunity I've been wanting soo bad). I was wondering if you 450 lovers knew the Pros and cons and the specs. I would like to know what I need to look for, it would be cool and make me know what I am talking about. Like on a cb360 the cam slippers and all that are the problem with those. The guy wants 300 and I think I can talk him down to 250, It has compression, no pipes, which I am checking it out tomorrow to see if there is corrosion in the header outlets.

IT DOESNT HAVE A TITLE, which in OK it isnt that big of a deal, that I know of so far, but worst case sceniro, I have a nice weekend race bike ( which would be a bummer, because I like the roads). This sounds like a nice deal, Idk if it is until I have a look at it tomorrow, I will see if I can take pics.

I am planning on rebuilding the motor, and I am also curious if these motors are compatable with like Mikunis, engine upgrades, which of course they are to some extent. But I am very excite about this and I am checking it out tomorrow.

Thanks DTT for helping me again.

If titles aren't a problem I would say go for it. I think these engines are cool, if for nothing other than the novelty of torsion bar valve springs. There are upgrades available....high compression pistons, hot cams, etc. Check out:

They will take mikunis. Also there is a new electronic ignition system out that seems to be pretty cool and inexpesive (http://www.cb450ignition.com/) I will be asking for one for xmas.

For a really nice engine build write-up, check out La Pastinaca - http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=27633.0

Dime City started out working mainly on 450s so they have a lot of experience and parts for them.

I think the only weak parts of the bike are the flaky CV carbs and the tendency for the cam followers to wear quickly, usually due to poor oil flow (typical on most older bikes). And of course the crappy 70's suspensions.

Perfect, I was planing on changing the suspension and most likely the carbs if I got it.. Thanks for all that useful info, Do you have a CB450? That electronic points systems looks awesome, would be a to buy item. I might be running a mono shock, new front end and new digital tach and speedo, I kinda want to make an modern cafe, instead of sacarfacing performance for the look. Thanks again for your help, hopefully I get it.

Very nice 450, nicely done.

Thanks. It is basically stock except for the sheet metal and runs like crap. Got some tinkering to do.

This guy put a modern front end on his. Check it out. http://pvsdesigncaferacer.blogspot.com/

Very nice, I will see if I will do that, still unsure on what I want to make out of it, idk if I am even getting it yet, but my plans are to just keep it how it is, after I make it safe and legal, have fun on it and once I figure it out, I will tinker on it.

Son of a bitch, could of been a Badass day, but nope he already sold it, twice, had to send someones money back. I was soo looking forward to that, In good condition too....mannnnn
