cb450 tarp monster

Ok super rough footpeg mount

Still have to smooth out the welds and properly jig everything up, then weld the pieces to the frame.
1/8'' sheet steel and some tubing from the metal dumpster at work.
I think i woke the neighbors forming these pieces over my vise at 2 am last night.

I'm starting to like the pipes the more I look at them
measured the hagons, and found that they will raise the arse end up nicely.I might swap one on to see how it looks

only picture i took before the camera batteries died

Love it! I really like the "function over form" look, and you've really pulled off and made it look awesome.
Do those fuel filters have a paper element or screens? I tried a filter that looked like that, and it only had a screen. It was letting all kinds of crap through. Totally pointless unless you've got gravel or something in your gas...
I switched to one of those paper element OEM filters.

Fantastic work man. Love the rear sets. Very well executed! Keep it up!

Nice work. I am going to have to get a nice welder one of these days, either that or box up my frame and send it to you for finish welding. lol.

holy crap i love the way those turned out! Really nice stuff... please dont change those pipes, I know someone said he didn't like them, but personally I think you might have some of nicest exhaust on the board, they really look the part and give that honda a real exotic look.

Man I have to say, DO NOT CHANGE THAT EXHAUST! That is dead sexy! I love the whole build.........but the seat! Sorry, but to me it just does not fit, to angular to flow with the rest of the bike! You need smooth compound curves to match the tank or an angular tank to match the tail! Just my $.02! Continuous flow from the front of the tank through to the back of the seat has to match styles and lines in order for it to be pleasing to the eye as a whole. I just don't think that you current tank/tail combo does that. Each as it's self is a very nice part, but needs a mate to make a bike. I hope you don't take it wrong, I love your biuld and think you have great skill. I like when people give me honest feedback, so that is what I give to people. I do think you could use some more speed holes! ;D

Really great work overall, and I have to say, I am not usually a fan of tank straps, but that one is tits! Nice work there for sure!

Cheers!

Thanks man,
Appriciate any input because sometimes my sense of style is a bit lacking. spent most of my life on race bikes, more concerned with the performance than the looks. I know what you mean about the seat and the tank not quite matching, and this is somthing that bothers me a bit. From some angles I really like it. Other views, not so much. The original plan was to french in the taillight into the flat panel on the rear of the seat. Now I'm thinking of just using a smaller strip light that will tuck in tight under the rear lip of the seat.

I was trying to build a more rounded seat hump, but with my limited skills, this seemed a lot harder to do. Everything to do with the metalwork and fabricating has been an on-going learning experiance, with quite a few mistakes along the way. I'm still a crap welder, but my grinding skills are getting a lot better. ;D

my pop's was a hotrodder from way back
heard him say many times " there is nothing lighter than a hole"

the one view I really like of the seat

Nothing lighter than a hole, I love it I'm gonna use that in the future. Your limited skills look pretty damn good. the rearsets turned out great. I agree that a nice round seat would be perfect. Keep it up.

Hi everyone
I've decided that a few things about how the bike is starting to take shape bothered me

worked on trying to figure out where to put the headlamp. ???if I decide i like this location, i'll use these pieces of thin alluminium as a template to cut some thicker pieces to weld onto the fork clamps that i made earlier. then polish the ears and add a few speed holes.

Here's a better pic of the headlight position and the new shock ;D

The shock is just mocked up for now, but this gives a good idea of what the rear stance will be.A very good buddy blew me away when he pulled these out of a drawer and gave them to me. FREEBIE. I'll have to build new lower mounts, and weld them onto the swingarm. It will well be worth the trouble because these are supposedly from a factory kawasaki kr750 2 stroke triple race bike, never used. 35 years old and very light .spring rate and valving perfect for this light bike.

For now i'm going to carry on with this seat. finished the welding on the front section where it is cut out. just have to figure out how to attatch it to the frame.

I also cut off the rear of the frame. Still have to make and weld in a brace between the upper shock mounts.
Hope that all made sense ... Gary

Oh NO! I forsee another hoop/no hoop debate brewing here!

garyo, you may have just opened a can of worms! Prepare for the nay-sayers!

Looks good. I like the shocks def raises the back up a bit. The headlight looks alot better in that position. I would hoop the rear of the bike it adds rigidity and these old bikes can use as much of that as they can get. Keep it up.

sounds like fun ;D
no matter what I do, going to make the back end stiff and strong. Still have to ride it

I welcome any feedback anyone may have.

Hey everyone.

Not too much progress on the 450 lately.
I picked up this all in one guage setup to replace the heavy stock honda guages. Trialtech vapour guage .way lighter, and no drive cables .An added feature is the engine temp sensor that fits under one of the acorn nuts on the head. I dont really look at my guages too much, so this is only to satisfy the cops.

I think that i'll take the advice about making a hoop for the rear of the frame. just seems like the proper way to do it

oh man that gauage is so sweet i just saw it on another place yesterday and thought about switching mine out for it.
looks sick, but how easy was it to instal the sensors? are they all digital? i looked at the MFG website but found not that helpfull.
like how the build is coming and i like the tail myself. its a nice mix you got going on there tank strap knee dents digital gauge metzlers i think it will come together.

the pick -ups are all digital, which really gets rid of a lot of clutter. tach is programable for any number of cylinders. you just wrap the sensor wire around the sparkplug lead 7 or 8 times and secure with black electrical tape .super easy
the speedo can go on either front or rear wheel.it has a sensor that mounts to something stationary such as the fork leg or swingarm, then you get a choice of a couple different magnets to go onto the rotating piece.( sprocket or brake disc).

I am going to use a new universal wiring harness made by Vancouver supermoto www.vancouversupermoto.com
it is set up to just plug into the vapor guage, with the proper wire connections. really well made stuff, and no 40 year old wires to ruin my day.

I am using one of the TrailTech Vapors on my dirtbike. I don't know if these old bikes are the same, but if the original tach has an electronic signal going to it you can put the vapors tach wire directly to it and not have to wrap it around the plug wire. They don't tell you this in the instructions.
