CB550 Brat/Cafe

The water does spray up on the back a bit without an outer fender. I don't mind that so much. I personally can deal with the rarity of rain, however 2 days ago it was apparent that it just flinged water towards the velocity stacks haha. That's what prompted me to move this ahead of other tweaks :p

It rains alot here in Ontario but my subframe sticks out a tad more than yours so I think I'll be ok to chop my fender right were its mounted under the seat

Very nice looking build. Looking to cut down my back fender and really getting some good inspiration from your photos.

Welp. In 200 short miles I grew sick and tired of these mini gauges and went back to my stockies. So..... I guess it's time to part with them and buy some indexable rearsets for my Raask brackets. Here's a pic of it back to what she knows best... Big goofy bling.

The last week has netted some changes. Painted the engine black, repainted the tank, swapped exhaust to an old Kerker from the yosh, lowered the gauges about 1.5" and ran into some issues possibly with my charging system. Tonight I plan to go back through and start repolishing on all the metals and go from there. Essentially I am now prepping to sell the bike because I want a Triumph Thruxton. So.... all the stuff I wanted to do will happen very quickly and I will only enjoy it long enough until the bike sells.

Re: CB550 Brat/Cafe

Thruxton won't sound nearly as good. :)

I've actually started working on it again. I wasn't fond of the blue. I felt it was a bit bland, plus is doesn't help much when the mooneyes were still visible. I sanded the tank down further, primered and went with a new color. I also started working on some of the other small details I rushed at the beginning of the ride season because I wanted to ride verses wrench. I owe this new available downtime to my newest purchase... an 04 Buell xb12r. So, as life goes I am going to finish this one, sell her off very soon and start searching out that old school big single 2 stroke enduro.

First off, I tried this tank on and was excited about it. I was going to swap it out with my buddy until we noticed that his petcock only had one line out K tank 77-78 designed for PD carbs. My bike while being a K model with a K engine has 022a carbs (F model) along with the dual outlet petcock. Long story short we went to swap them out only to find out that the petcock sizes were completely different by almost a half inch. Saddened that this swap wasn't going to work without some component changes I decided it was time to respray.

Sanding

Base coat came out pretty smooth. Needed a little wetsanding and a buff/cut but it shined up very nicely.

Glued some badges on I pulled on a 350 tank.

Dirty and dusty. It looks a lot better imo. I also put on the correct kickstart arm and the proper brake rear brake lever. I'm not sure what the brake lever was off of, my guess was an F model. It was shorter and required more effort to engage. The proper once made a world of difference in the feel.

With the new bike

looks neat. pointscover is turned wrong way, coolerfins need to be horizontal to optimize airflow.

Nice build. Any chance you have video/audio clip of the two exhausts? Would love to hear the difference

The New one sounds like a motorcycle...the old one sounded like God's bullhorn

Re: CB550 Brat/Cafe

That bike has passed me at WOT and it was a spiritual experience.
