OK, so I have this vapor computer on my bike and it actually monitors the engine temp. Does anyone know what normal operating temperature of a CB550 engine is so that I can program in my warning lights?
Yeah, sadly that's about all we got around here - lot of jokers
I'm sure someone will pipe up with a proper response to the real question. Make sure you also sign up at forum.sohc4.net - the penultimate online source of info for SOHC4 Honda's and my 2nd fave forum on the web.
yeah I posted there first actually. I've done a little research though, and there really is no "normal" operating temp. I guess the real question is how hot is too hot?
I road raced one of these lumps for 6 years............they won't melt down,,,,,,and if you miss a shift,,,,,,it will take 12,000 rpm,,,,,,,,,,one of the best engines honda ever designed.........air cooled ;D
Most motoroil stops being particularly lubricious at around 260*....seems like that'd be a good point to set, at least initially..
LOVE the Vapor...nice piece, great features for not very expensive..
thanks guys. Yeah, I really like the vapor so far. It went up to like 280* when I took it out today and that that seemed pretty hot to me. I know mine is running lean though as I haven't jetted the carbs for the pod filters yet. I am sure this is at least a partial reason for the high heat. But this should at least give me a good base for programming those warning lights
Where are you measuring temp?
280 aint too bad for a lean running bike, decent oil won't break down until ~320 ish
I've seen 375~450 at cylinder head around exhaust ports (not directly on pipe/port)
