Well after I was rear ended I decided to rebuild my 76 cb550f
It's a bit of everything. The bucket is from Benjies Cafe Racer. I took off the clubmans and went with drag bars. The tanks us a 77 NOS 550. Never had gas in it. My last 2 tanks were Swiss cheese. The seat was custom made by new church . Used the same seat pan, Ginger really knocked it out. Using carpy's bobbed fenders. Thanks Ed!
My friend had a 72 500-4 engine for sale, the 550 is a pain in the arse. So I put that in. Only think missing is a lifting rod. Still thinking about my exhaust. It's a 4-1 but my muffler tip rusted out. Not sure if I should get it fixed or get a new one.
Hey Ed.. Bike is coming along. Seems like every week is a new issue. Had to get a new stator, starter switch and a couple if oil gaskets. Still looking for a decent original 4 into 1. The rear fender works great by the way.
And I moved my ignition into my bucket.
Cheers and get those bikes done. I'll be working on my XS650 soon
Plan for mine is similar to yours.
*Drag bars,
*Brat Seat,
*Cat Eye Tail Light. The Chrome Grab Bar looks good with the seat so I think I will Mount it Up close to the Bar, Mounted to The fender, but up at the grab bar.
* I had a 78 CB750 Front Fender in better shape, that is the same as the 550 with both supports. but fender is about 2"shorter in the front.
*Pods
Here is how I got it:
Finally put the front fender on. Got tired of water in my face.
Next is to remove starter on go kick only... And a new muffler. Going with the racing one from Cone Eng.
Hey that front fender looks familiar...Looks like you decided to mount it rolled further back on the wheel. Fancy hardware mounting it with those chrome acorns!
I have been going a little crazy with hardware myself on my 550. The Carb Caps, Bowls and linkage all got stainless socket bolts, even the mount bolts and 2 little screws in the head above intake.
I went with Stainless Button Hole screws on my rear fend because they were lower profile/smooth.
I am worried it was too far back. I might move it forward and fill in my holes.
I spend a lot at the local hardware store... If I take a bolt or nut off I always replace it with stainless steel. OCD I guess... I bought flat and lock washers in bulk, 5,6 and 8mm.
That is looking clean! I like the 4-4. The Ignition is a pamco from cb750 supply. I think is was $120 shipped. Super easy to install. The bike has never idled better and the smooth throttle response.
