Cb550 Rearset Mounting

I bought a set of rearsets off ebay without the mounting brackets. I think they are Tarozzi. I wanted to make the brackets myself as I wanted to be able to locate them where i wanted. I started with some foam board templates using the motor mount bolts as a reference so that i could keep them the same from side to side.

Once i had the templates where i thought i wanted the foot pegs to be, i transferred them to plywood and cut them out so that i could sit on the bike a put a little weight on them.

I took the templates to work, drew them up in Autocad and cut them out of aluminum on the mill.

Here is a picture of the final assembly after the brackets were polished, and the linkage assembled. I modified the stock shift lever and the stock brake lever.

I'm also interested in your brackets, as I just got the same universal rearsets from fast from the past. It looks like you took your kickstart lever off. Do the rearsets get in the way?

I have put it back on now I had to heat it and bend it to clear.

I will try to come up with a price in the next week or so for the brackets if you are interested. I'm not looking to profit, just need to cover the cost of material and labor. I don't know if they will fit anything else, cause i only have the one bike. However anybody could use this process to come up with their own brackets. I cut these out on a mill, but they could be cut out on a bandsaw. Hope this helps.

They look great. What size plate did you use? Have you tried to kick the bike over yet? I was curious if it still works comfortably. I want to go just kick with a similar setup but I,m nervous it will be a pain to start it.

Also why did you decide to change the design? I noticed your prototype used a v shape and then al final just attaches at the lower motor mount.

I used 1/2" thick plate, the original V shape was because i used the upper and lower motormount bolts as a reference point to get from one side of the bike to the other. It is using the lower mount, but also i have a U-bolt that clamps around the frame tube. I haven't tried to start the bike yet, but I have kicked it over a few times. it feels fine, just a little more pressure is required because the length of the lever is shortend by the bend.

I have had several questions about fitment for other years-I only know for sure they will fit a 76. As I find out more info I will post it. I am planning to make a few more sets. I will post when they are done. Thanks.

I might be interested in a set of these as well. Let me know what you come up with.

Sorry it took so long finally got a couple sets of brackets made up. If you are interested PM me and I will fill you in on the details. $60 a set plus actual shipping cost.

Pretty cool, but I'm not too sure about the u-bolt type mount. Wouldn't a handlebar style clamp be much stronger? Just sayin'! :p
