CB550k K4 left switch question

First build on a 70s bike and want to baseline my knowledge on something that is just irritating the hell out of me.

Left switch, specifically for turn signals. When moving the lever to left or right, I get good flash from each side, both front and back. But when reaching full position at L or R, flash stops and I get solid light.

Been trying to find the same issue out there before posting, but all articles I am finding revolve around LED conversion, which I have not done.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Could certainly be the bulbs.

I bought the bike with aftermarket turn signals already in place, and the issue was present. I have since replaced them with non LED lights, and have the same issue.

I don't believe it is the flasher as I've tried replacing it with 4 different units with the same results.

My first question is whether this is normal operation for the switch. I suspect not, but really want to know before I potentially start chasing ghosts.

Sounds like corrosion in switch contacts plus spring pushing on contact plate is weak or rusted out

Ok, so not normal operation and you are also thinking the switch (so am I).

Appreciate the assistance. I'll update once switch has been cleaned/swapped.

Yes - sounds like the switch is losing contact when you fully apply it.

I had the same thing with a horn button - horn was fine when tested directly on a battery but wouldn't work when the switchblock button was pressed. Voltmeter got 8v out of the wire which wasn't enough to make the horn work. I cleaned the contacts and all was good.

To confirm your issue, try checking the voltage coming out of the switch when you partially switch it as opposed to fully switching it.

Well, we're closer to the answer. After some added reading and learning the following:
There is intended to be a L1, L2, R1, and R2 position for the signals.

The buzzer is only engaged in the L2 and R2 positions (full left or right)

These positions may require additional power to run both the winker and the buzzer, and may only be observable when riding and not simply On.

The buzzer seems to be a common delete.

Long story short, removed the buzzer and winker works at all position when simply On.

Horn button is still not giving me anything, but in less convinced I have a switch issue at this point.

Thanks all for the help.
