Here we go! Finally starting the 1980 cb that I ve had sitting in the garage for a couple years. I picked it up cheap and complete. Im finding parts easily and inexpensive. Its gonna be a fun project. I will try and keep you all updated and chime in if I can help. Please do the same. Stop me if I get stupid cuz I have more tools than brains..

So far Ive torn it down and straightened that little dip in the frame so I can get a nice flat seat and pan. The tank is from "I think" a 71 kawi H1 that my uncle had hanging in his garage for as long as I can remember. I had a sheet metal guy contour the underside to fit properly. That is beyond my skill level. The plan is to lower a stretch it. I hope to chop down the forks and extend the swingarm a few inches with an 18" rear and 19" front on vintage Firestones, solo seat and clip ons. Motor tear down with fresh gaskets and fix whatever else I find starts tomorrow.I have some donor parts that I fully expect to butcher to see if it works. It may just turn into a big mess, but what the hell

I anticipate you'll be going through the carbs....the 79-80 carb kits are difficult to find. ebay user cruzinimage carries them as a set of all four kits, but often is out of stock....last I asked (I have done a fair share of these) he said he'd be getting in a new stock of them end of January so Look early Feb for them. The 81-82 carb kits are different. In a pinch cb750A kits have all the same parts except main jet is bigger and needle taper is different....but those are the two easiest parts to clean and reuse from your stock carbs.

Thanks for the heads up. I will start hunting now so they are here when I get to it. I have the full engine gasket kit on the way. I hate waiting for parts half way thru a job. Stay tuned!

Thanks again

How did you straighten the dip in the frame rails ? Just cut the bottom side of the weld lift it up and then fill in the gap with Weld ? I only ask because I am about to attempt this soon

I will take a closer pic of the frame mod tomorrow and post it for you to see. You will need a piece to extend it after you straighten it. I used a bottle jack and some pieces of 2x4 to lift it. Torches help. I have a thread on the projects forum under specials. I will post it there.
