Hey guys so I came across some nice Brake rods made by Joker Machine. They only seem to offer it for the CB750, so im wondering, would the brake rod fit a 72 CB500 Four. Im assuming that honda would have used most parts for nearly all CB models to cut costs...or maybe I could be wrong... Any one have more knowlege on this? Here is the link to the brake rod that joker machine offers. The measurements are listed on the bottom of the page.

The Honda Part numbers are different....Might be different length...

Measure yours, send a note to Joker and see the length, they might be able to make one for yours in the right length..

Shouldn't make to much fun as I'm kinda a billet whore.
I have some joker machine stuff and ttr400.

Thanks mydlyfkryzis. Ill have to rummage through my parts bin to find the rod and hopefully it isnt too bent out of shape for me to get a proper length reading from it. Ill give it a shot to contact Joker Machine and see if they can manufacture one in the proper size for me. Hopefully it wont cost more than the one they have listed on their site. Id love to have one. It looks pretty sexy with the set up they have pictured.

There are other options. I seen somewhere (might of been this site) where someone took some Aluminum (you could use other material) tube, put it over some all thread (threaded rod) and made there own custom rod. Personally, I would consider Stainless Steel, polished.

Just another option...

So after measuring the rods, they don't seem to be the same. I emailed Joker Machines asking if they could possibly manufacture one slightly shorter to the specs of a CB500. After all whats the bother, its the same rod just an inch shorter, and now they would open up a new product for CB500 guys. Well I received a not so charismatic and very short and blunt reply from them. My email to them was as follows:

Hello, I just noticed while browsing through your site that you guys offer a great looking Rear Brake Rod Assembly for the CB750. I figured that maybe I could use it for my 1972 CB500 Four K0 model, but after measuring the stock length of the old rod I noticed that it was an inch shorter than the CB750 one that you offer. I was wondering if you guys could manufacture the same assembly product for the CB500? Please let me know. I'd love to have one for my project.

Their Reply:

We can't. We can only make what's already offered.

Okay...Fair enough..but showing a little effort in satisfying more than CB750 people would give them a better and friendlier reputation. I just read that as, 'No, go away, we don't care, stop bothering us". Granted I know its quite a process to render drawings and produce an actual product so i don't expect them to go out of their way just for one CB500 rod. Im sure their products are great, but customer service seems to be piss poor. Well, there you have it guys. For those of you with a CB500 Four who would like to add a nice billet brake rod to your set up, Joker Machines just doesn't want anything to do with you, so it looks like you're stuck with your old flimsy rust wire death trap. Enjoy!

Have a look at the TTR400 site. He makes them in alloy in a choice of colours. They will fit a 550 so they will fit a 500 as well. If the brake torque rod is slightly longer or shorter then stock all you have to do is rotate the shoe housing within the hub a little bit. This wont affect performance at all, and any slight difference in position can be taken up by the adjuster nut on the brake actuation rod. :)
