A bit about myself, i am currently 16 years old and dont get my bike licence for another month now so i thought in the meantime ill do up a bike. I picked up this 1979 Honda Cb750 DOHC for $800. Was a coastal bike so it was a little rusty in a few spots. I live in Australia and ive been buying in quite a few parts from the states while our dollar is strong at the moment which is a bonus. warning to slow internet users.

Looking really good so far, I will be keeping an eye on your build.

Those fork lowers came out really nice, I bet that was some serious elbow grease you used on them.

thanks for the encouragement stidds

Engine was running tip top when i bought it. the previous owner did the spending on the carbs getting them redone and tuned up just before i bought the bike. he also put in new electrics stuff like rectifyer, magneto and what not.

Engine is back, pulling covers off to tidy up. found the 3 flywheel bolts loose... handy.

loose starter drive bolts are the norm on a DOHC, you would of heard it rattleing all the time, mostly at idle.

You'll probably notice a clunking when in neutral and the clutch out. This too is very common, the dampeners in the back of the clutch basket dry out becoming hard. The clutch basket has a bounce when not under load these dampers (when new &/or soft) absorb this, also when engaging the clutch they are an absorber of types so your not running metal on metal. I haven't found any place that sells these, even honda doesn't carry them probably because they are riveted on to the clutch basket and should be interesting to change. some day when it bothers me enough I will have them reproduced here at our local synthetic manufacturer.

Lucky for you, you didn't crack a cover like I did using the same technique. :D Nice work on the bike and look forward to seeing more in the future. (Thanks for helping us in the USA. :D)

ah damn, i had a good long look at the situation, then a couple of deeps breaths and did it no worries at all.

It's great to see some love going into a DOHC. Can't wait to see her complete. Keep up the great work!
