Finally at a place where I feel good enough about posting some progress photos. I had been waiting on the BCR tank and tail so I could cut the back of the frame, weld the hoop and position and the rearset plates - now it's going to be full speed ahead on the build. Hope to have it painted this week-end then the reassembly can begin towards the end of the month, damn holidays getting in the way now. ;D

This is awesome.. can't wait to watch it play out..

I just got a '82 dohc a while back and am going to work on it a bit this weekend.. finally i'll get it back up and running and be my daily rider

Well, made a little more progress on the ride. Did the paintwork - base clear and layed the stickers, assembled with tank and tail to get a feel for the look and if what I had in my head was as good in real life... yep, pretty much exact. Got the engine back in and mounted a new front tire on the spoked wheel and rolled her out for a few more photos.

I managed to source a spoke rear wheel with disc brake that is on it's way so that should finish the look. In the meantime I have a lot of wiring ahead of me and some more polishing before the first fire, but it's getting close now.

Different bike but.... I was out in California last week helping my brother with his build. Like the paint work? After seeing my bike he wanted to do the same scheme. ;D

That cafe is looking real good so far. I really like the bobber too. I'm going to have to build one of those one of these days...
and a board tracker too.... :)

so pretty...which is good for a "money is no object" build.

I personally prefer the budget builds myself...

Don't know about the "money is no object" statement. Everything on this bike I have done myself or scrounged my parts bin to re-use items. I splurged on the tank/tail since I got the bike for next to nothing. We'll see how it all pans out but so far it looks to be under $3K all in. Nothing wrong with that in my book.

Wiring is all sorted, the left side was a breeze after messing with the right side for far too long! Got my new rear tire/tube on the spoked rear wheel and set up the chain. Rearsets and linkage are all hooked up - GP Shift! Braided lines are on and bled, new mini gauges and headlight brackets from Dime City Cycles, grips from eBay. Fabricated a license plate mount and all I have left to do before the safety is set the signals up and mount my license plate lights.

Still waiting on my smaller battery that will fit under the tail hump but using a spare battery I got it all fired up!! Took a while to get the gas flowing and filling up the carbs and I had a gas line leak at the y connector (this new tank has 2 petcocks) but no float bowl leaks and nothing else to report so overall I am pretty pumped. Here are the latest photos.

Mount on the frame worked out perfectly for the rear reservoir.

The long cable still hanging down is for my rear mount battery. Once I get the battery it will be cut to size and tucked away under the tail.

Getting real close to riding this beast now. If it wasn't for waiting for parts it would be complete.... so close now :D

Make sure you ride it out to Toronto soon! I wanna see this thing in person. Awesome looking.

Plans for a front fender or fork brace at all?

Are you sure that's a 750????? Sure looks like you started with a 900F to me. Forks, and brakes are definately 900F parts, and the black motor is possibly 900 as well. 750 motors were all silver. 750Fs did not have the air forks, or the venting on the brake discs.
Do you still have the stock headlight brackets? I am looking for a set for my 900F

Yes, it's a 750 - says 749cc right on the engine block. The engine has been painted black. Forks are 750 as well as I have the 900 here too and it also has air valves. The 750 forks are a different diameter than the 900 and use much weaker triple clamps. Disks were on it when I got it and I transferred over the front to the spoke wheel, maybe they are from 900 I don't know.

The rear wheel is a 1976 750 SS unit which is one of the few years that actually came with a rotor rather than drum.

Here's what the bike would have started life like - black engine and all - looks like the same discs to me and air valved forks:

That's the first time Ive seen that done on one of the DOHC's. Bravo. ;) I like that you went with the 18" rear rim as well. Your bike looks so clean and crisp. Keep the pictures coming ;D

I stand corrected. The '82 750F did indeed come with the black engine, air forks, and 900F brakes, and was the only year to come that way.

Excellent work there. Have you considered putting in a braided line for the forks, or ditching the air altogether and adding spacers? I'm looking at this decision soon. I also slid the forks up in the triple clamps and now the fuse holder/handlebar clamp won't work.
