CB750 Guys come in!

This a quick and simple question, however I am not sure anyone will be able to answer it because of the difference in swingarm lengths between the years. My F bikes swingarm is longer then the earlier years.

I have a 78F and I am trying to find out if it is even possible to run a 4.50 on an 18" rim behind the bike? Will it fit or will I have clearance issues. I had a 4.25 on the bike (see avator) and it wasn't bad at all, it came on the bike but since, has rotted to crumbs from years of neglect from the p.o. so they had to go.

The top rear frame rails have been chopped almost to the shock mounts. No fender will be ran either. Relatively bare bones cafe.

A 130(5.125")will fit a late cb 750(SOHC) boxed type swing arm,,,your choice of rear rim would be a 2.15(wm3) if it's a wm2,,1.85 stick with the narrower tyre,,cause it will handle better, looks is good,,,cornering is more fun ;D ,,,, cb 650 17" will swap in and the rim is the proper size...and da tyre available at 130mm wide

I am keeping my comstars (being powdercoated as we speak) and am not going anything smaller then 4.25.

4.25 equates to a 110 width,,that will work fine,,,hey and it will corner too!!!! a 120mm will work but now your stretching the tire profile to fit the rim,,,,for the street no problem I had one jambed on my race wreck as well, but traded it for a 110......old twin hondas,,don't need big TYRES,,spend your peso's on suspension and a reliable engine. the latter you should invest at least $400..and it's done and reliable

A 130 will fit a stock swing arm no problem. It gets a bit close to the brake stay arm but since you have an F (rear disc) I guess thats a non-issue :D. As far as handling goes, my bike rides/handles fine BUT I would`nt consider it a Cafe, nor do I ride it hard (I am an old brittle fella). That being said, I would do a 130 again without a second thought.

Unfortunately that IS part of the issue. There is a brake stay arm used for the caliper/bracket. Pic attached.

JRK5892, I don't think that pic is his bike. I've seen it before off of sohc4.net
I'm running a 120 on the rear of my CB750. I'd stick with that because it was the largest size I could put on my comstar 2.15" rear.

No the above pic of the red bike is not mine, please no one think that, I will not take credit for someone elses hard work. I just use it as visual reference because it is one THE cleanest 750F bikes I have ever seen. That guy had crazy attention to detail.

Haha! :D
No worries Bouncer, I knew you were using it for reference, and in no way thought you were taking credit for another bike. Seemed to me JRK5892 thought that F was yours, and I was correcting him, not you :)

The tires on my F are Maxxis Promaxx. They were pretty cheap, and they are working quite well. My mechanic had a set of Battleax BT-45s and wanted to try something new on his bike. He gave the cheaper Maxxis tires a shot, and they performed well... He recommended them for my ol' CB, and they've worked well for me so far. I wouldn't trust Shinko garbage, or Kendas, but these Maxxis are a decent tire.

Just ordered my tires I opted for maxxis. I went with a 120 out back. My rims are at the powdercoater but was told that the front must have taken a pothole. DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know how bad it is but I am mad right now. I took quite a bit of time getting the bearings out of the damn thing and now find out that it may be junk. Now I have to start looking for a new front rim...... great!
