Cb750 racer

Put the engine back in this weekend and put my back out. I can start to finish the small things now and the wiring. Also got some 40 weber DCOE sidedraft carbs that am thinking of making a manifold out of wood and filler then get it cased as I have looked to buy one and cannot find anyone who supplies them (unless someone on here can help).

Ouch, I have not seen that done on a inline 4... good luck to yar. That said....
I LOVE YOUR BIKE!!!!

So finish that son-of-a-bitch already would ya! ;)

Started the engine for the first time tonight. I first took the plugs out and turn the engine until oil come back to the oil tank, then put the plugs back in and started the engine. At first it was rattling and then it went quite and smoke filled the garage up, I looked at the front of the engine and oil was running out by exhaust port no.3, looked as if it was coming from the bottom exhaust bolt. I tighten the bolts up on the exhaust as they we're a bit loose and it seemed to slow the oil down or is it just the heat of the engine expanding and sealing. So now I have to take the engine back out, but I did rebuild the top end and put all new seals in, plus the six rubber seals under the cams. Am just thinking if I should of put a lot more sealant around the rubbers. Will finish off the small jobs on the bike and then take the engine out.

You mean on the SOHC the bottom exhaust bolts are drilled into an oil gallery?
Damn... Learn something new every day

Am not sure ? But that's what it looks like. A mate has said it could be the seal under the cam housing and looks as if it's coming from the bolt!

I sorted the oil leak out, it was the seal under the cam tower.
So I put the engine back in and it ran like shit (spitting out of the carbs) . So I must of had the carbs off 20 times checking the float heights, clean the jets and spend two days looking on the internet reading all about the carbs (78 PD's). A couple of sites said drill out the idle jet (which is a 0.38) to a 0.43, which I did and it made it a bit better, but still not right. So I phoned a couple of mates, which one of them said " what spark plugs have you got in". I had put in " indium plugs" at £10 each, he said take them out and put in some standard plugs at £2.50 each, which I did and what a big difference it made, it runs sweet. So now it's pasted the MOT test I just got to play with the air mixture and have fun. The carbs are set up 0.43 idle jet, 125 main jet and needle on groove 4. It rides really good seeing that I cut so much out the back of the head stock.
