cb750 rear only turn signals setup

Been Around the Block
Hello everyone. I just hooked up a nice LED tail light to my 76 cb750. I bought it mostly for its style and smoke finish. It has built in turn signal LEDs so I thought I would hook em up. The previous owner removed all turn signals and the mystery here is how do I make these rear turn signals work. I have the correct wires plugged in but I am assuming the fact that the front are not in a loop is keeping these from working? Is that the case? Im getting nothing at the moment. No rear signals or turn indicator light. I feel like I am blindly plugging things together but I wanted to ask you experts if I am missing something like a ground or should I connect the front wires together? Any thoughts?

Have you replaced the Flasher relay with a new electronic one? You wont get it to work without one.

If you haven't gotten an electronic flasher unit, the EP34 at autozone etc. will work. Even without it, though, you should see a solid non flashing turn signal.

Do I understand that none of the lights on your new unit are working? Have you used a multimeter to check for voltage on the wires you're hooking up to the new unit? Is there a dedicated ground wire on the new unit or dies it ground through its mount?

I dont think its the relay since I was testing with some flashers that came off my cb360 (which used to work fine). The new unit does work as far as the brake light goes but not the flashers. No the flashers do not have grounds like the old ones, but I am assuming it using something involved with the brake light since its all in one piece.

In order to run LED signals you will need to use an electronic flasher unit (unless the tail light has resistors in place to make that unnecessary).

You shouldn't need to have the front signals wired in order to get the back set working. If you're not getting voltage to the turn signal wires at the back of the bike, it's time to trace wires and figure out where it's not connected correctly.

Ill check the voltage tonight and see if I can figure anything out. I hear what your saying about the electronic flasher unit, but I have front LED and rear Bulb turn signals on my cb360 with the old flasher relay and it works fine. Is that just a freak of nature?

It's because the standard bulbs on the rear signals are still pulling enough current to make the thermal flasher work properly. You got lucky. ;) LEDs all around will need an electronic flasher though.

AHHHH. That makes sense. Much Thanks. Ill do some more investigating.

presto chango. So I got the rear blinkers jamming now. My last issue is that the turn signal indicator doesn't work. I noticed the bulb was blown so I thought I was good to go when I switched it with one of the other working bulbs. Now the issue is that both turn signals blink at the same time and the turn indicator wont turn on. Interesting.

Wow. That's serious. Any idea what kind of diodes I should get? http://m.radioshack.com/radioshack//catalog.do?cid=1093105&p=2&o=&categoryId=1093105&cust_categoryId=
