any one know what these do exactly? I know I've seen lots of engines without them, so they can't be super critical. these came stock, right?

if they are helpful somehow, anyone know of a good easy replacement. I could get a bunch of pencil erasers and cut nipple shapes in them. :p

I'm sure they'll be left out of the rebuild, though. unless you guys can give me a reason...

prevent fins resonating and cut noise.
You may get a high frequency buzz without them but, I've never seen fins fall off because of vibration ;D

what can you use as replacements? im going to have to pull mine out for spraypaint.

yes... you need them... your engine will explode into your nuts without them, and of course, at the least convenient of times, like when you're about to need your nuts. I'd recommend replacing them with something similar, or possibly superior to the original material, think: titanium, adamantium, or one of the various other 'iums available to the modern rocket scientist...

I think art store erasers might do the trick, actually. but I'm not too worried about it. and I haven't used my nuts in years.
