Just picked up a CB750 and was really excited the exterior of this tank and paint were in such good condition. After playing with it a little I have come to realize the paint is about all that is holding this tank together. The steel is thin enough that when you close the filler cap the filler neck and top of the tank flex in about 3/8" and pop back out. Is ebay the best place to find a replacement? I take it they don't make anything like a patch panel or anything I could weld into the top? I'm great with fab work, but don't have the tools to roll a piece of sheet metal to match the curves. Also what is this paint color? I really like it and I would like to match it when I paint whatever tank I use.
When you start welding and cutting on tanks you are guaranteeing yourself some headache. it will almost undoubtedly leak. ( had some experience) it can be done and you will have to line the tank with a GOOD!!!! liner. keep it in mind if you decide to do some fab work on a tank.
still going that route? My biggest piece of advice research extremely hardcore on liners. :'( DO NOT USE KREEM BRAND!!!!!!!!!!!! :'(
it will peel off and create problems all throughout the fuel system. the kit is 60 bucks and does not work. I am still trying to fix that one.
that being said find a good one to replace it. IMO
Tanks on eBay go for about 100. Also, that looks like a factory color maybe? Check some bike salvage yards, SOHC 750 tanks are a dime a dozen in those places. Even having to drive an hour or so might be better than trying to source one online.

I totally forgot about bike salavage yards. I just moved to the Houston area and see there are a few around here. I'll call around. Since I cant roll a piece of sheet to match the curve of the tank I'll probably end up going the replacement route. I believe it is a factory color just wanted to see what color that was since whatever tank I get will probably need a paint job.
