CB750 Tsuma

would it not be easier to grind off the weld on the steer tube , press it out and fit to the gsxr clamps. More than likely you will need to make spacers, but easier than making a complete new steerer tube.

The GSXR Stem is too short for the CB750 frame.
This thread http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=27159.0 explains the stem diameter issues which is a simple fix by contacting https://www.allballsracing.com/. They will provide you with the correct bearings to match your donor bikes stem to the frame of your choice. FunJimmy's build shows that it is a direct bolt on scenario FOR A CB550.

The problem for a CB750 though is that frame head length is longer than a CB550. Yes the bearings are sized correctly from allballs but the GSXR stem length is about a ½ inch short to work in the CB750 frame. Allballs warns you of this in bold letters on their website as a disclaimer.

The next issue is that the GSXR stem is ~30.25mm at its base. My CB750 stem was ~29mm. Yes you can just grind off the weld at the base of the CB stem/triple and then press it out.
Industrial Cafe converts the CB750 stem into the GSXR lower triple by stretching the CB stem at the base to create the appropriate tight fit in the gsxr triple. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=63784.0

This is my first post on this site. Sorry for referring to another forum site with my links but the links will answer everyones questions on the stem.

Thanks, for the info. The idea for this stem is to create a clean/simple solution (press out short gsxr, and press in new longer stem) for myself, as well as others doing the conversion. By creating a new stem, it guarantees straight and true bearing alignment between the top and bottom races. Furthermore, I like the idea of not having to send the stem out to be modified. The quote to have my stem modified is about the same price as the new stem; so I consider it a win win.

I really enjoy designing these parts to look as if they came from the factory that way.

I'm also working on a retro top tree and a nut to match.

I agree its always better to be able to do it yourself rather than sending out to be done by others.

Those top clamps look nice.

Nice work, looks like you have some creative juices flowing. Where do you source sport bike wheels?

They are old harley rims. eBay usually.

Spent today working up some bolt on rearsets.

Ruff prototype.

So I'm rethinking my rearset design. May go with a tube based version.

I like this tube version much better. It flows with the lines of the frame, the first one not so much.

So far I would say you are doing quite well with your build, look forward to seeing more.

First few Retro Top Triples are in for GSXR conversion. They look amazing.

Yes they do!

How do they clamp to the tubes?

As you tighten up the screw it squeezes the half round inserts together. I did that to eliminate any slots in top tree and to hide screw.

Great idea! I wouldn't have thought that would give enough to squeeze the tubes, very nice job!

It actually clamps very well. I'll get a pic of them on the cb550 later today.
