CB750 vs CB750F

CB350

Been Around the Block
I have a chance to pick up a nearly complete 78 Honda CB750F. Can someone give me a quick breakdown of the difference between the F model and the regular CB750?

Thanks.

Off the top of my head:

--rearsets
--slimmer tank (4.5gal v 5.1)
--different seat, cowl
--dual front discs, rear disc (vs single front, drum rear)
--dual horn
--slightly different gearing

Later F model heads (including the '78) had problems with valves/valve guides wearing fast. A common solution is to put the same year head from a K engine (the "regular" one).

What's the asking price?

Here is the deal I found. http://columbus.craigslist.org/mcy/364385551.html There is a picture included in the ad and here is what it says:

"I have an 1978 cb750F that has been sitting in a shed since 1986. The bike was running when parked. I was able to turn the motor over maybe twice than it felt like it hit something and i don' want to push too hard. The tank looks clean inside and i have one good side cover for it, also it has the 900cc kit in it. I have attached pictures take today. looking for $200 obo."

Problem is I just found out my $200 has to go to pay a medical bill. I've got some stuff for sale on Craigslit myself to scrape the money together. I hope someone snaps this up since I can't.

Shame, it's only about 15 minutes from my house.

Oh yeah, I saw that (I'm in Cleveland and look at the Cleveland and Columbus lists daily). There's a whole lotta rust on it and what the heck happened to the exhaust?, but for 2 bones it might good for parts or to strip down to build something from the ground up. Though I'd be worried about how much of it is salvageable and how much would have to be junked. Not sure about that massage work on the engine either--836cc kits are fairly popular but above that is pushing the limit, especially when it says there might be a problem inside.

Well, that makes me feel better about not being able to scrape up the money. Thanks for the information.

Yeah, I guess finding my CB350 for so cheap was my one lucky find in this lifetime. ;D
