What do you guys think? I'd be looking to turn this into a Cafe but should I be worried/concerned with 37k on the clock? I'm looking to hear from some experts on what to look out for.

That thing is crazy clean for a bike w 37k on the clock. Go talk to the owner. If it's been taken care of properly (most have not) then you may be ok. Check the usual. Compression, frame/tank rust, wear items...

I inquired this is what he said back

"I picked it up a couple mounths ago and did the work described just to resale"

Stuff like this makes me skeptical

My KZ just rolled over 60K and runs awesome, original engine. Bring a compression gauge over, put a flexible magnet into the oil fill hole if you need piece of mind. When I buy a bike I always go into it knowing the engine is toast... ;)

That does look superbly clean. I never pay asking, so see if you can size up the owner and strike a deal...

for me when it comes to bikes new or old, unless its rockin something ridiculous like 100k miles. I dont pay much attention to it as long as the engine is running well and the rest of the bike goes according to price. I agree a compression test would be a very good thing to go through

I think it is way too clean and original to turn it into a cafe. I would look for a stripped down 750 and build it back up to what you want...............Just my .02 cents....................

37k miles isn't a lot. Not every bike can be had for 1000$ and only have 2500 miles on it, this thing got ridden, and judging by the looks of it, was maintained so that it could keep on being ridden. The aforementioned problem areas/tests should still be done, but if the comp is up to snuff and the oil isn't yellow/milky, I think it's a fair deal, but I'd still flash 1200$ in fresh multicolored 100$ bills in his face and see what he says to it.

If mileage is the worry, then old bikes might not be for you....
Years do more damage then miles.

They don't worry me. As someone who is new to this stuff I was just looking for advice. I don't mind fixing something if it needs fixing. I'd just like to know of anything before I get my self into it.

The miles are not an issue. Not much wears out at that mileage.

The real issue is the bike's condition. It looks as if it has been "stored" for a long time and the engine cases are corroded. The seller paid a lot less for it and has polished up the obvious parts to make it look much cleaner. My guess is that the original owner put those 37k miles on it a decade or two ago and it's been in a garage or storage unit since then.

If that's the case the motor may be stuck and carbs are probably a bit of a mess. For 600 it'[s OK, at that price you want one that's running well but looks rough because you don't care so much for stock fenders or seat or tank. You will probably modify those parts anyway.

On the other hand, if it runs nice an clean and has been run frequently but looks bad, it might be OK. Seller claims it runs fine and has rebuilt carbs and new tires. Go check it out. It that's true and it runs good, why is it not in your garage already.? :)

Best advice for a newbie is buy the best stock bike you can find.
And then keep it that way.

Don't buy a bike that is half running thinking you will fix it.
Don't buy a bike and start modifying it either.

Yeah he claims it runs good. Two main reasons its not in my garage yet

1. he is 3 hours away! Damn Florida for being so big!! a
2. Xmas :( haha buying for 3 kids and a wife is draning!!

If he still has it after the holidays I might just nab it up!

Thank you all for you input it has been invaluable to me. I truly appreciate your time
