Posted this on wrong board...so let me try it again in the right section

I'm starting this thread to have u wrench-heads help me through my first cafe build...and I'm overall clueless without my "motorcycle for dummies manual". I'm working with a CB750SS and instead of hours researching for answers...I'm just gonna post and hopefully you crazies will give me easy and great advice instead of making my own mistakes.....so here we go on the DTT members build...
First question: I wanna buy clip-ons but how do I know what size to get (mm) for my 1975/1976 Cb750 super sport? How do I measure fork size or does someone know already?
My bike:

Actually found a DTT member in my town to help me paint it to look like worn out steel. There's no cafe's here and we will be the pioneers.
Any help and suggestions appreciated.

Now you are in the right spot! Good luck on the build!

trying to follow by ur words twisted; "built not bought" but baby steps....this engine just needs carbs cleaned....got 2 350's to dismantel and study engine in the summer

Here is a bit of a tip for you, www.cyclexchange.net . Check them out!

You can find some really cool shit for the 750's there! Their 4 into 2 into 1 pipe is the SHIIZZNIT!

Decent looking SuperSport. Even has the stock pipe still. Very rare! Paint the bike, put it back to stock, and sell it to someone who appreciates those beautiful bikes. Then take your money, and buy an old turd that deserves to be hacked on, and have money to spare for the rest of the project. The old Supers are beginning to gain in value, so why take a potentially $3500 bike, and turn it into a $500 cafe?

Pretty good idea actually. The F's are getting more and more difficult to work on because of rare parts. Mine was a dump to begin with, so turning it back to stock would have been harder than cafe'ing. I am jealous of some of the K owners, because of how much easier it is to find parts (especially for the motor). I kind of like the challenge though. The earlier F's like this one aren't as bad, because if you need to you can swap out things like the top end with a K if you want. The 77 and 78 seem to be the worst...

The early Fs are especially hard to restore. That type of pipe was only produced for 1 yr I believe. The rear spoke/disc wheel is quite rare as well, especially in good shape. Later Fs all came with Comstars.

Scroggin...great inspiration bike for a newB like me....I'll just throw acid on my new purchase and build over!!!! hahahaha

That was Easy!

On a serious note I peeked at ur thread, I'm still at work...goood job dude...red is hot! may just throw questions at you for help... I have a 1970 CB750 rolling chassis which I may experiment on before I do it to the Cb750ss....got the CB750 rolling chassis for $100 cant beat that for a biggener...WTF is a Wire wheel....JK

Dude your dog looks like my pit! DOgs Rule!!!!!!

Twisted you don't like that stock exhaust....its like the cadillac of all 4 into 1 exhaust I thought....may keep it and just wrap it halfway....I'll call my build "pimp daddy"

BTW my eyes are crossed reading your Eileen build...good work...fuck medicine! I wana be a effin MotoMechanic/Builder.

On a serious note, you actually gave good advice.... going to keep things stock except tank and seat to make it a cafe, wrap exhaust, and put clip ons.......but will keep everything overall original...was gonna move the oil tank but after what you said (seems u love original bikes dude...deep hearted pitch to me) I'm keeping it where it is...and anything I pull off I'll store just incase this craze you say happens thyen at least I have option to re-sell for profit with all stock parts....thx dude

Cycle X is a good find...and I agree that exhaust is sick...got a 1970 CB750 rolling chassis that I also wana build that exhaust might be the one...

I may also remove the oil tank and place it under seat like wrenchmonkeys but dont worry killadwarf I'm keeping the stock in storage.....i liked that idea of using home depot copper tubing to route oil from under seat.....know i just need to find a stubby seat like my yama inspiration and find a metal container to seal under it....any nice cheap seats anyone recommends? I was thinking of rockcity roadster seat..

I like cafe bikes that are done well. Many are not! I like nice original bikes as well, and I've seen many nice bikes hammered, and cut up here into some pretty fucked up cafe wannabees that are never finished. Making a nice cafe takes money for parts, and money for tools, which some beginner builders never take into account.

I agree with dwarf man it takes tools granted I need more tools than you just doing a seat and tank swap but you'll be surprised by the number of tools it takes just to pull that off. Keep that in mind.

I will disagree to an extent! Someone with lots of will, tons of imagination, and loads of ingenuity can do lots of cool shit with very little tools! Knowledge is something you have to have though, you can't substitute that. Deviant1 made one hell of a cafe if you ask me and he has shit for tools! Grant it he was able to use some of other peoples tools every once in a while, but for the most part we made do with whatever we could find! As for your pipe, I do like it, I was just staying that they have a very bad ass one, best power from any brand of pipe on the market for a 750! Thanks for the props on Eileen! She would not be what she is or will become without DTT! I have learned more from here than anyone could imagine! I am glad I can give back to the new guys and build the machine I vision with the knowledge I have gained from here!

^^^they grow up so fast :'(^^^^

Cool build man. I say build it how YOU want it. Trust me, you will get arguments and naysayers, but it is all the more fun in the end.

Damn, you guys are on top of your game... my next post was what tools are necessity of this trade.. I'm going tool shopping this weekend...I only have a set of pliers, phillips head/ flat head screw drivers, sand paper (don't even know grit size), an elctrical drill, hammer, electrical tape ....and.......oh yeah my trusty DuctTape....laugh but I'm 100% serious.....Shit I know I'm behind but at least I'm in the effin Race!

I mean if Louie can do it, how hard could it be.....JK

FYI: "New Gal" puts me to shame...no one tell her....I gotta keep a tough reputation....

Pick up a grinder and some cut off wheels and flap wheels. files wrenches if dont have them sockets if you dont have them. Need stuff like loctite and silicone.

OK, I take it back, Deviant1 has an alright tool set-up, you have shit for tools!

Well to start you will need at least a set of wrenches in metric, an adjustable wrench, and a hack saw.

Now, you do need at least a drill, an angle grinder, and some bits and cutting wheels.

A wire brush wheel for the gringer and for the drill will come in handy for sure!

You may be suprised at what you can do with only those tools!

Now I do recomend a nice ratchet set and allen wrenches! That will help a ton! There are more tools that are nice to have and I have most likely not thought of one or two of the must.

HAMMER! Vice grips, bench vice, Dremmel is nice!, C-clamps, measuring tape, punches, dikes/side cutters
