Awesome! I had fun just watching the video... I can't imagine how much fun it was to actually do it! Great build!

Great vid, I was going to give you some crap about wussin it a little at the beginning, then you kicked it in the ass and I saw about 1345 opportunities that I would have crashed (for sure) and thought the vid was so good I could almost smell the plants hangin off your bars. Good job, great bike and it looks like you had a blast on that trail....

I just saw your posts and notice the sandblast pics. I photographed you the last two years, lol

Thanks for vid
I know Go-Pro makes things look slower than your really going, must have been up around 100 mph+ a couple of times?
It's funny to see full size mirrors, indicators, etc going that fast down dirt tracks
Did you get any derogatory remarks about having a 'full on street bike with knobbies?
Guess you shut them up by finishing, no matter what position (how did you do overall and in class by the way?)
Your my hero 8)

(definition of hero - someone too dumb to realise they could get killed ;D )
Keep up the good work

Cool Heli Cam of the event. I made a few shots after the 2 minute mark. Bright helmet is a nice way to get in pictures. It photographs well.

GPS max speed said 91. It was tough to find a stretch long enough and smooth enough to get it up to speed with wheel spin and then back down to cornering speed. More aggressive tires would have been nice. It's hard explain how much harder it is to get this bike down from orbit compared to a 280 pound dirtbike. It's a whole other world.

Average speed for a whole stage is around 45mph to 55mph so there's lots of 60mph in short straight and 30mph in turns.

It was raining and cold all day Saturday but I made it through the slick stuff with no issue other than when my coils grounded out in a a really bad storm that soaked the bike. I lost about 5 minutes wiggling wires to get it to start up again.

Unfortunately the I DNF'd on the second day and so did the other bike in the heavy class (750cc+).

I ran out of gas between stages on the second day and couldn't get to the next stage before the cars started coming through so I had to re-direct back to service. I thought I could get the 85 miles out of 4+ gallons even riding hard but I was on the throttle WAY harder on Sunday because the course was dryer and had more traction. I only made it 68 miles on a full tank of gas. Four accel pumps getting flogged for 25+ miles on the dirt took way more gas than I could have guessed. I was OK with gas the first day because the wet weather and rougher stages kept speed way down. If I had finshed I would have been 6 or 7 out of 12 bikes.

The other heavy bike was a KTM 950 enduro R. His fuel pump died about 15 miles from the finish so his weekend ended prematurely too.

One other DNF was a clogged fuel injector and the other over cooked a turn, went over a cliff and broke the ball off the bone in his left shoulder in the crash.

Last chance to vote. Voting ends today.

Sorry to hear about DNF, I used to race Enduro and had several the first year, usually ran out of time after crashing or getting lost (no GPS in the early 80's)
I know what you mean about heavy bikes compared to purpose built racers although I can't imagine how much more difficult it is with the extra 200lbs
I saw in vid that several people had 'gone off' and made holes in the scenery ;D
Guess it's a learning curve, may have to 'learn to ride' all over again and use torque rather than rpm?

Crazy, right? ;D

The chances to ride/drive this fast for long distances on any kind of dirtbike are pretty infrequent so it's tough to get a handle on judging speed vs stopping distance. It's easy to get amped up and ride past your ability. I'd say about half the guys had at least one trip into the weeds. Some did it a few times per day. Dirtbikes are forgiving though. Usually the bikes have slowed enough that they can ride it out and get back on course. The cars get F'ed up when they go off. The stages are too long to memorize every corner so without a co-driver we just have to read the tree line to judge the next corner. If there's extra loose stuff it's easy to end up underbraking and coming in too hot. The places that had multiple tracks into the woods are usually a deceptively tight turn that have a distraction before it (bridge) or a weird tree line that isn't close to the road.

I didn't have my camera on when I took the scrambler through a ditch early on day one. I got too much of both brakes coming into a downhill, decreasing radius turn too fast and went into the weeds. I was alerady sideways so I dropped right in the ditch and stayed on the bike. I had to push it out of the ditch which was probably about 24 inches deep and muddy. The next time through there I could see that the same turn caught 2 or 3 others. The guy right behind me said he would have done the same thing if he hadn't seen me pushing my bike from the ditch. ;) Always glad to help a fellow racer!

That's it. I'm putting fun tires on my motorcycle.

They're just as fun on the street....and you never have to wonder what's down that old dirt road...you just go.

I laugh, in good way, every time I read this build. Good on ya for doing something completely different you got my vote.

Thanks Notlob. Since your bike is way too nice to abuse this way you're welcome to try mine if you're ever on this side of the pond.

This idea makes more sense on wheels than it does on paper. ;D

Cheers to the 11% that get it!

My favorite stage of the race. 10mpg but 100 smiles per mile!

Here's the gps data.

I'm going to wash the bike and get back to putting that new front end on this week. Stay tuned.

You might not have won the BOTM, but it looks like that bike is giving just about as much fun as one person can handle!

It's great to see such an out-of-the-box concept work out so well.

Crazy
