Cb900 Weird no-start issue

Hey everyone,

Turning to the experts on this electrical problem I am having. Basically starter button is doing nothing. No starter solenoid click. One day it was fine, next nothing..

Battery is charged
Showing 12-13v at solenoid.
No fuses blown
Have tried 3 starter solenoids
Can bypass solenoid to fire starter.
I have tried spare starter control switch. (As well as ignition switch, and spare 15v fuse housing)

Issues I find weird are that all solenoid wires, Red, Red/White, Yellow/Red, and Green/Red show 12vish BEFORE starter button is pressed. Looking at diagram should yellow/red and green/red not show voltage until button is pressed? It feels like the bike is in kill mode(not run) due to something. I do not know the location of the starter disconnect switch, which may be important to check..

If anyone could point me in a direction of something to check, I'd very much appreciate it.

Thank you,

-Jeremy

Follow the power...

In insanely simple terms, if the ignition switch is working than power goes to the starter switch and then to the starter.

Grab a multi meter and find the break.

is the headlight coming on?

did you check the main fuse in/near the solenoid with a meter?

If I read the wiring diagram right green/red should be grounded if your clutch is in or you're in neutral.

Cheers

Thanks everyone for responding. So it ended up being a bad diode... it was the only component I wasn't familiar with or knew where to find, and of course it was it. Looks to have been fired.

Again, thanks for reading and any replies

Good catch. I've fried one of these on the 1000R. Still don't know how it happened :-\
