Great looking bike! I had a question on that exhaust - is that for the virago 920RJ? (Mac 804-1003) I've looked around and can't find anything like that for the 750, seems Mac only makes a 2 into 1 for the 920. I assume it would bolt up to the 750 just fine but I thought I'd ask!

Rctech, I don't know about the exhaust on this bike exactly, but I can confirm that the MAC XV920 exhaust will fit a XV750 as I have one on mine. Sometimes you have to remove the centre stand to accomodate it though.

Thanks! I was 99% sure the 920 and 750 could share exhausts, but I wanted to ask before I spent the money on it.

The 920 exhaust fits the 750's. Hope that helps.

Bike turned out great! Question though, what kind of rear tank mount is that? Some sort of clasp thing?

It is a battery strap from a honda cb125. I've since replaced it with a custom leather strap my brother-in-law made for me :)

Hey Stanley!

Sick bike. I sent you a PM

I'm building one up and biting your style my friend.

Care to give a brotha some help with wheel build up?

thanks

Hey Stanley
Will 87 XV700SS rear hub will work the same way as 86? I cannot find the 87 XV700 specs anywhere. I found a 87 XV700 bobber but the owner is not sure what it is, XV700 or XV700SS. It does have spokes like your and if I am correct only XV700SS came with spokes wheels. I asked him to look at the part# on the hub, 86 XV700SS rear hub part# is 42X-25311-00-Y8.

Hey Stanley,

First i want to congratulate as its beautiful bike!

I have few questions about it, clean technical.

What type of battery did u used, is it stock one? (i can see it is under your seat connected to subframe),
Is it possible to post/send picture without seat? i mean whole subframe and battery system. If its not to big problem ofc.

Thanks, and really its first thing im jealous for...that bike :D

Hej Stanley,

Very nice project, I love it. Soon buying XV750 too. The biggest question, why everybody choose 82'? It's because that is between 81-83? :)

I am not sure. I only know that the 1986 xv700ss rear hub worked on my build. If the 1987 rear hub's part number cross referrenced is the same, then I assume it will also work.

I bought an 82 because it was the cheapest one I found at the time. Maybe the 82 model was sold to consumers more than other years? :)

After lowering the forks about 2 inches, How much oil does it take and what grade

I filled the front forks with 15w Maxima Fork Oil and follow the fill specs per OEM service manual. Works flawlessly.

Stanley,
Did you end up cutting the Progressive springs in addition to adding your spacers to get your 2" lowering in the front? If so, how much did you cut off springs?

Also, do you recall what aftermarket master cylinder/brake control you went with?

I'm neck deep in my build right now so if you don't mind I may have some follow up questions. Thanks!

Btw, I can't say enough good things about your build. Great job!

Hey man I just wanted to know what pet cocks you used on your tank, and how you moved all your electrical, that was once under the stock seat. I'm building my own '83 virago 750 and I'm going to base my bike off of yours and Greg's.

- Purchased front and rear Progressive Springs
- Installed Progressive front fork springs
- Lowered 2 inches with PVC rebound spacer
- New All Balls fork seals and dusters wipers
- Maxim 15w Fork Oil

Everything was a breeze............except for the damm c-clip on the top spacer!! I fought it for 30 mins taking them off and another 30 installing them. Wish I had a real press.

Stanley,

When you lowered the front forks you said... 'Lowered 2 inches with PVC rebound spacer' What does mean? Does it mean that you removed another spacer and replaced it with a smaller two inch spacer?

Love the bike by the way....

Hey buddy. After you cleaned and sanded your engine, did you primmed it, painted or put any protection? I am referencing to the gray part of the engine, not the black painted one.
I am working on my engine now and everytime I use the wire brush on the block or the head, it seems like there is a a kind of coating that goes off, and what is left does not look like the color of your block.
Also what product did you use to take the grease and dirt out from the very tiny and difficult to reach places? Only degreaser?

Thanks !!
