CBX550 - Bleeding front brakes from dry

I just went to look at your build. I see you have the splitter still, that can be a source of air lock so loosening the banjo bolts one at a time and pumping until fluid comes out can really help get the air out and get fluid past.

Hi All....Despite my best efforts, following all the good advice proffered on here I'm suspecting the m/c is worn. There's not much pump, it feels weak. Since I bled the rears, with a new m/c, the difference was stark, strong pump which shifted enough fluid, once primed, to bleed well.

I used a borrowed vacuum system which sucked the fluid through the nipple, not too much fluid coming out...is it flow that is the issue, is that related to the m/c?

The rear calipers are sticky, but I hope they'll get better with use??

So, I could've ordered a £25 repair kit for the front m/c as I suspect it's not pumping 100%, but I have ordered a complete m/c assembly for £30. Spoke to the supplier who tell me they see quite a few and can vouch for their quality...so one is winging it's way to me as you read this :D

So much for Brat on a budget ::)

those are the Chinese MC you see on Ebay. They are Ok, I have used them on a few bikes, they work fine. the thing that wierds me out about them is they send you parts to rebuild the MC as if they know its going to fail.

I have one on my cx. It's ok, not awesome but fit the budget and yep I thought it was funny it came with the bits to rebuild it too.

Doc...I got mine from a well known UK Honda parts dealer, David Silver Spares. It's the complete repro front m/c unit including the lever. I didn't get it off ebay and it didn't come as a self build kit or include any spare parts? Maybe, DSS keep them and sell them as the kit?
It's got a matt paint finish (which I'll keep for now), unlike the factory finish, but it worked out of the box....I now have a firm lever feel. I'll bleed them again in a few days.

Maritime - I'd called the suppliers and asked them if it was 'any good?', they told me they sell a good few with no problems. I suppose time will tell, but for now it's another job off the list :D

Big up to all who took the time to offer advice, thank you it was all a great help....mostly to prove I wasn't going mad or doing something crazy or wrong. ;D

Good stuff, My guess is DSS has them made and controls the quality a little better because of that.

Good call...I have to say it's a good copy, I even used the stock cap with the new rubber seal/gasket. No lube on the lever pivot, it has some now though ;) and I had to re-seat the little gidget on the inside that covers the feed hole, no biggie.

Here's a question: I like the look of the adjustable, alloy billet race levers for both brake and clutch, the two finger jobbies.
However, I can't find anyone offering them for the CBX550...do you, or anyone else, know of a compatible lever set from another Honda model that's suit the CBX. They look fairly common design, but I 'm no expert on these things....anyone know?
